I'd have to side with Zom Zom here. I didn't know MTV was playing thiem. That shocks me in ways. I don't have cable either. Wouldn't know these guys are getting airtime. Seriously. I think they are big in the U.K. It also looks like Brian May might have a hand in these guys??

They seems like fun. I can imgine that voice would get old though.

I thought I would attempt one of those posts where one answers each statement. Let's see now..

Stop giggling and have at it.

On your recommendation I'm going to look further into this Darkness thing.

I like them. I am not recommending them to anyone.

I believe that would be your skinny ass.
I turn on the radio to listen to MPR or other dull talk and news programs. I have no idea what sort of music is played on Popular Music Radio. I saw a billboard sign advertising Target once. I avoid teenagers.

I've only looked into The Darkness minimally... but from what I can see from the storefront window is a bunch of fucking hooey.

"Hooey" mixed with decent rock and roll is called "entertainment". Alice Cooper, The Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, The Stooges, DEVO all had "hooey" going on which made it fun.
Contrast these bands with any other beard and denim clad "serious" "musicians".

The Darkness do not play Metal. The "metal market" probably is not interested in them.

Har Mar is an original entertaining showman.

I don't know, I haven't heard them, but I just couldn't imagine listening to Tony Blair's favorite band

I had no idea that the Darkness were fat and stripped down to their underwear on stage. I have so much to learn about this band!

Just heard them on 770. I think, outside of the high vocal parts, they sound a lot like Trip Shakespear. I thinkg they are fun as hell.

The guys voice bugs me a bit, like some of you said, I don't think I could take listening to the full album all at once. But him singing "Get your hands offa my woman" in that falsetto is awesome, like Tiny Tim gone rock. Also, the video for "..thing called love" is so great, especially that big thumbs up he gives at the end. And what is the deal with the kung fu bass player? I can't tell if they are doing it as a joke or not, but I laughed my ass off at that video. They seem to have some cool guitar riffs, I'll have to do some further investigating, although for me they would seem to be more of a guilty pleasure sort of band than someone I would really listen to a lot.

There's too much shit here to reply to sooo...

I'll just go on a person by person basis.

zom-zom,
What you seem to be saying is that somehow you are one of the few people that can avoid mass media and the garbage that they relentlessly shove down the throats of the american public.

I guess if you're not living on a deserted island I don't see how a person could possibly think that they're somehow avoiding whatever's being pushed this month.

Which raises an interesting thought that I've had for the last year... THE 80'S ARE BACK! One of the main reasons why I despise The Darkness without even knowing much about them is that they're bringing back the 80's. The 80's were dead. Visually The Dorkness is Van Halen resurected. Sonically they're a bunch of other shite bands that I hated resurected and balled into a walking zombie of the 80's. The whole concept of the band makes me ill.
End Rant.

I think the bands that you called "Hooey mixed with rocknroll" were at least being honest with themselves and their music. The Darkness is just ripping off as much schtick as they can from the bands that were popular when they were in 6th grade. Of course this looks like a brand new thing to all of the kids that are eating it up now.

What The Dorkness is playing is what I call metal because I'm old. You'd probably remember that kind of metal too. The "real" metal... not this Nu Metal Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, we can't spell or sing properly so we scream as much as possible shit that they call "metal" now days.

Sonicfreak,
You said: >>>I had no idea that the Darkness were fat and stripped down to their underwear on stage. I have so much to learn about this band!<<<

If you can't find the paralells in the schtick's of The Dorkness and Har Mar Superstar... then I can't possibly explain it. But... Remember when Har Mar Superstar was the evil twin of Sean Tillman? Remember when Har Mar Superstar took the stage for 1 song at D4's CD release party at 1st Ave? Remember how all the punk kids thought it was great? Remember when Har Mar Superstar was more of a joke than it was a "serious" R&B "project"? See any similarities between what Har Mar Superstar is doing and what The Dorkness is doing? People ate Har Mar for lunch over in Europe. They seem to think he's the greatest thing since The Dorkness. Now when you read an interview with Sean Tillman he's all serious about Har Mar Superstar. HELL YA! I'd be serious too if my old rock band wasn't getting me where I wanted to go and now this thing I started as a joke has me rubbing elbows with movie stars and super models. The Dorkness is no different. They're riding the wave of the 80's comeback... And I'm going to despise it until it goes away again.

All I said is that I liked the band The Darkness. I'm sure they're honest about what they're doing. Who cares? I want entertainment.

I'm certainly not alone in being one of the people that avoids mass-media garbage. Sure, I watch the occasional TV show, but never have had cable TV. Popular Culture via mass-media just isn't much of a part of my life anymore. It doesn't interest me so I pay little attention to it.

I'm sure Popular Culture via mass-media has influenced me in the past, but as for music and bands, I still rely on The Record Store or Word Of Mouth as recommendations for new music. Not TV or Video.

The Eighties never left, neither did the Seventies, Sixties, Fifties, Forties or Thirties. I think the Twenties are done with though.

As for their look, what would you like to see them wear? Should they be wearing Relaxed Fit Stonewashed Pleated Jeans with Extra Ass Room, Teva Sandals, a Ball Cap with the brim Rolled Up Tight, a Minnesota Wild jersey and sporting Suburban Dude Goatees?

I'm older than you.
