I liked it much more than I expected to. I'm familiar enough with the material to enjoy what they did with characterizations, mannerisms, etc., yet have no emotional investment in the franchise. Whereas a friend walked out and said "they just rewrote my childhood with the stroke of a pen."
Karl Urban and Simon Pegg are the real reasons to go. |

| It really was enjoyable. It succeeded despite itself. Ultra self aware, campy, insane JJ Abrams plot, all things that shouldn't work, but did. Went in hating new Kirk and Spock, left loving new Spock, and Abrams understood we'd hate a new Kirk so he just beat the kid's ass for 2 hours. |

| agreed, new spock is spot on awesome. though i couldn't help but think this could've been more awesome if it was new star trek, rather than the whole timeshift revision. |
