| Septuagenarian Stew + Phillips Vodka + Goat Head Soup does not equal a good mental state. |

| I read Factotum. I think he is a good writer. I probably won't read anything else of his but the kids seem to like his work. |

At one point I owned everything he had published, I'm pretty fond of Ham on Rye , Dangling in the Tournefortia, and Post Office.
Plus he wrote my all time favorite poem, which I actually discovered on the M.T.C., goes like this.....
"Sometimes I get so down in the mouth
that when I look at my shoes
there are three tongues" |

| I think I like the idea of Bukowski more than I like most of his writing. I like that this dirty old rummy manages to get respect (at least to his face) in a trade fraught with pompous literati. I like that he writes about parts of life that most people gloss over during his time. I like Bukowski's stuff in the way that I like Henry Rollin's early stuff- rudimentary work with a lot of heart and maybe some honesty. |

The thing about Hank is he is both base and utterly honest while somehow infusing, or seeming to infuse, that greater "literary" truth in his words, despite having just told the god's honest truth: nothing is ever good enough.
I like that speech where he derides the pretty girls in the front row for being false and how they won't let him fuck them. |
