that Wino Willie Forkner and his Boozefighters invented the 1%er, or "Motorcycle Club" on the 4th of July weekend in Hollister California. This is what The Wild One was based on.

During the July 4th weekend of 1947, 4000 motorcyclists converged into Hollister, a sleepy California town of about 4500 people. The movie, The Wild One, starring Marlon Brando, loosely depicted this event. Some say it was exaggerated, and others say it changed American culture forever.

The infamous Life Magazine photograph of a drunken hooligan laying unconsciously across a Harley Davidson has defined the event for more than fifty years. But, in fact, this picture was staged by an inspiring journalist, and photographed several days after the festivities. As the story goes, a town transient was placed on a bike with empty beer bottles strategically planted near the scene. If you look closely at this image, you'll see a young bearded gent' with a grin standing behind the motorcycle. Yes, that was him, according to his account.

The Top Hatters were there along with The Booze Fighters

Carlton, Minn. Life has been as close to normal as it can be around the town of Carlton today Friday, that is, given the presence of about 500 members of the Hells Angels and an untold number of law enforcement officials.

The bikers are gathered in Minnesota before their annual ride to the rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Minor problems have kept police officers from a number of jurisdictions busy with traffic stops. State patrol and city and county law officers made 280 stops Thursday through about noon on Friday.

Wow. That is lame. ~500 bikers and ~280 traffic stops in a day. Sounds like they didn't have much better to do or needed to raise some funds in Carlton.

Or needed to remove the veil of secrecy and anonymity that comes from being in a gang.

Funny, my job is moving to Hollister, I'm seriously considering relocating there. They have a 4th of July run every year, 40 to 50,000 bikers....boring as hell.

There was an Angel in at Grumpys tonight. I briefly asked him about Duluth and he said it was just stupid. The majority of the Angels spent their time and money at one of the nearby casinos, where they were made to feel welcome.

Whats with all the OMC's lately? In the last 2 weeks I have seen 2 separate full patch Hells Angels, a full patch Sons Of Silence, a full patch member of The Mad Ones, a full patch Los Valientes and a separate Los Valientes prospect. Is Sons Of Anarchy to blame? Have the clubs been lowering their standards? Are the armies massing for a big shootout in St Paul?

sweet, the comments on that story are great, like bikers are an oppressed white gang while the latinos and blacks rule the streets.
