My pal said there's a Watchmen preview before Batman. Sounds like it looks pretty awesome! I saw a few pics and Dr. Manhattan looks sweet. I will like to view.

I'll be at the Southdale 7pm showing tomorrow. I expect a totally slightly above average superhero movie. Great story + bad director = luck of the draw.

Early reviews have been cruel.

Actually, early reviews have been mixed, which makes me hopeful. Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars.

I liked V for Vendetta too. I did prefer the novel, but I hadn't read it before I saw the film.

Anyway, it would be easier to make V for Vendetta instead of Watchmen. They are both graphic novel/comics, but Watchmen deals with costumed super heroes, which is incredibly difficult to take off of the pages without it seeming hokey.

Yeah, I just saw others that weren't as bad. The Salon review was almost glowing.

Chooch and I saw it as a Friday matinee. I liked it. Some gore. A good amount of blue penis shots on Dr. Manhattan. I thought it was really well done.

I'm kind of mixed about it. I thought it was a fine enough action/comic movie. I think most of the acting was okay, with Matthew Goode's take on Ozy being a little flat. But I think it's up to the director to get an actor to do something different. They are actors, after all. They can act differently.

I really want to be able to acknowledge the film as a separate work from the book. But there were two drastic changes made to the end that I found to be unacceptable diversions from the book.

I really want to see it again to see how I'll feel about it.

i liked it, though i thought some of the deviations were bad choices. the audience not expecting dr manhattan's lack of modesty was hiliarous, especially the frat boys.

it...was okay. Most of it looked right enough. I've read the book so many times I couldn't get much more out of the film beyond that.

It *did* give me one thing to appreciate about the previously-hated 300: as there were no firearms at Thermopylae, Snyder couldn't fall back on his favorite thing ever--slo-mo shots of shell casings hitting the ground.

I thought the One Big Change was cinematically appropriate (look at the AWFUL CGI for the mutant lynx and tell me they could have pulled it off successfully) though it did weaken an earlier scene. My one big beef was everyone was too "super" for being non-powered people largely out of the crimefighting game and/or a decade or more past prime. Yeah, Dan & Laurie should still know how to hurt people, but not so effortlessly.
