I fired up my computer this morning and got the warning saying that my copy of Windows XP was counterfeit.

I've been running this copy of Windows for at least a year and a half, maybe longer. Considering it's April 1 I'm wondering if I was caught with my pants down and got a practicle joke courtesy of one of the Lithuanian Midget Porn files I downloaded.

Anyone else get this warning?

And if it is a real "reminder" from Bill Gates how would one who is on a severe budget go about rectifying the situation?

The new version of WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage ver. 1.9.9.1) was released in early Feb and has caught up with us. The balck helicopters landed on my rooftop deck last week and busted me. I have family and friends who I am helping with this also. This site has always been my best source for these fixes:

Code:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/02/20/download-wga-validation-crack-1991-1900091/

I found that this file worked for me:
Code:
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/ssbytixlp

un-rar, run installer.bat and follow the directions.

My take on this is that since sales of Vista have been sagging due to the economy but mostly because Vista sucks and Windows 8 won't be released for awhile, they need some quick income.

I have to say that key was good for a number of years though.

I have a computer that is also in need of validation 'fixin'

How would one apply either of these cracks when I cannot get XP up and running? When I try and logon it puts me in a tailspin of asking whether I want to activate it or not.

Boot to a CD with the crack on it?

Have you tried booting into safe mode. If you can get into safe mode I would suggest restoring it to a time before you experienced this problem. Never had to deal with one that is asking for "activation".

My guess is that this validation fix won't help your problem. This fix is for when you get the warning that your XP installation may not be genuine and prevents you from getting updates. You are describing a different problem.

Are you using a Volume license key number? Volume license keys don't require activation. They may fail the WGA check but they won''t ask for validation.

WGA dosen't just affect pirated version of windows.

It also will come up with the warning if you install windows too many times. IIRC its 2 times in a year, or if you change the hardware in your computer (CPU, video card, etc) it will come up as counterfit.

If it is a valid license meaning you are using a valid windows key that came with your computer or you have a version of windows you bought you will most likely need to call up mircosofts "hotline" and verify the license.

IIRC the crack can only be installed before you get the WGA warning, meaning before you run any windows updates.

Normally the WGA only gets installed on your computer if you have windows updates set to run, if you have this disabled then you will not get the WGA app installed on your computer. But once it does from what I know you can't uninstall it. You can try the torrent sites and look for WGA cracks and fixes but I'm pretty sure 1/2 of those are trogans just waiting to get installed on peoples computers.
