so, is it a standard practice for computer repair shops to scan for porno and private pictures? just curious since you always hear about people getting busted for naughty pictures when they turn their computer over to some computer repair shop (like gary glitter for example). or was it something blatently obvious like their wallpaper?

i'm just curious how a computer repair technician goes about that anyways. is it under the guise of driver support or scanning for bad sectors? is it something worked out with the authorities, kinda like with photo developing?

i know a few of you repair computers, so spill some beans. Laughing

I'd guess it'd have to do with the individual techs and how they are monitored. I've worked with people who did the same work as I, but had no scruples whatsoever. I've also worked at places where you could get fired for snooping, not to protect the porn viewers, but sensitive financial data.

It's a case of the repair techs trying to add to their personal porn collections.

where does the law stand when snooping a hard drive for illegal content? does the computer repair person get a free pass if they find illegal stuff? not just the pr0n, but what about other things, like incriminating financial stuff, or activist group stuff? or can the computer repair guy get reprimanded?
