I start a job I like @ 6 pm. There's plenty of time to drink or not drink. Its recognizing yer triggers and doing what's right. I don't like being miserable. That's a good reason not to drink right there.

HALT: hurt, angry, lonely, tired. I'm not hurt, angry or tired. I certainly am lonely. When I get off work, driving drunks around for 10 hours, I come home to an empty house . . .and a 12 pack.

Find activities where you will meet new people. You'll have to assess your own interests. The thing that always leads me back to drinking is that I get bored really, really, really fast.

not to be a jerk, but maybe you should find a different job, something with more regular hours, up early in the morning, maybe you take a cut in pay, but do something different/new/different environment people, make a break with the lifestyle you associate with drinking. Maybe some outdoor kind of seasonal vibe to try to work the stuff out of your system in the fresh air.

It's tough to find something sober to do at 4 am that doesn't include pimping or baking.

I quit drinking a little over six years ago. I'm real happy with that. I've done some of the AA thing but not as much as a lot of folks do. I PMed you about it. Also have just started checking out a group that related Budhism to the 12 steps at the Zen Center on Lake Calhoun. But I've always kind of been interested in exploring Budhism and meditation... not sure if it would really be good for someone jut starting out. Anyhow. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Vish, there is/was an artists and musicians meeting up on Central Ave N.E. on tuesdays I believe, check the book, If it's still the same people I'm guessing you'll know a few people. Also you work with a few folks who might be helpful, there are also a fair number of sober old punks around.....the only trick to soberin g up is changing everything you do.

Hey Vishnu, I've been trying to quit drinking, too. If it helps, know you're not alone in quitting.

I'm ready to start an anti-AA/NA group. Emphasis on exercise, vitamins, proper nutrition, shooting the shit, honesty. There is a book by Dr. Joan Larson, founder of the Health Recovery Ctr called "Seven Weeks to Soberity," an excellent book that explains alcoholism in physiological and rational/emotive terms. I urge anyone trying to quit drinking/drugging to buy this book. I am offering my large NE Mpls duplex as a meeting place. One major difference between AA/NA and Health Recovery Ctr: NO HIGHER POWER. NO GUILT TRIPS AND HELPLESSNESS. THE INDIVIDUAL IS EMPOWERED, WITH THE USE OF PROPER VITAMINS, NUTRITION AND GUIDANCE NOT TO DRINK OR USE. PM me if interested.
