I went. I saw. They conquered. August 25, 2003. Anyone else out there in attendence? You have never seen 15,000 crazier people in all your life... the crowd went APESHIT, and so did I, so did I!
They played the first two albums minus "Ann", "We Will Fall", & "L.A. Blues"... and, uh, one new song "Skull Ring". Nothing off "Raw Power" (!)
Iggy's always good live, right? I've seen him solo about 8 or 9 times, and let's face it, The Stooges songs are always the highlights. First time I ever went to see a band in a bar wuz Iggy at The Longhorn in '79 with a forged MN drivers license. Always great... BUT, with Ron Asheton's GUITAR SOUND, & Scott & Mike Watt on Bass, how could it get better? It CAN'T.
I drove to Detroit TWICE to see this show, the original scheduled show was postponed due to the blackout (sheesh, I NEVER go east, and when I do...). I got a great tour of urban Detroit at 2AM after the concert, what a great place. We complain about all the old buildings in Minneapolis getting torn down, heck, in Detroit they CAN'T AFFORD to tear down the buildings cuz they're all SO BIG. Wanna see the original Model T factory that hasn't been in use for decades? There it is, right on Woodward. And their old Train Station from the 20s: derelict yet BEAUTIFUL at the same time. Even the Grande Ballroom still stands; check it out http://detroityes.com/index.html
It was the best concert I've ever seen in my life, I've been going to shows since 1976.
Hell, it was the best time I've ever had in my whole life ANYWHERE EVER! |

| I heard The MC5 were going on a reunion tour with the guys from Good Charlotte singing for Rob Tyner and playing guitar for Fred "Sonic" Smith. |

The very thought of that is just about enough to induce projectile vomiting.

I had the displeasure of seeing Iggy perform on TV recently (Jay Leno or Dave L., can't remember).
And who was his back up band?
Sum41
Sad, and painful to watch. |

Iggy has 4 backing bands on Skull Ring: The Trolls (the crap metal band he tours with), Green Day (who provide the only listenable song on the album, too bad it sounds like a Green Day throw-away), The Stooges, Peaches, and Sum 41.
Iggy has ceased to be an innovator, and has now just become a mockery of his former self.
Maybe it's time to go back on the junk and be pissed off for real, instead of pretending to be angry. There is so much unnecessary and misplaced profanity on the album it's just sad.

considering that the "raw power" lineup is all alive, i'd vote for them.
i love watt, but he's just a fill-in here. |

Raw Power lineup will never happen again. Ron Asheton is still bitter about moving to bass. Here's a cool interview with James Williamson, who is now a very successful Silicon Valley guy:

I like this word! mockety Cool!
I like the Stooges tracks on the new Iggy. Don't care for a lot of the rest, especially the Green Day/Sum 256 stuff. |

It may suck as music and I suspect I may not like it. I have yet to hear any of this stuff.
Does he have a right to make some fucking money and go away. Fuck yeah.
Let him hook up with all the latest top 40 "punk" bands and make a mint.
Those bands will attract a new breed to the past stuff and there's more money for the others as well. Money is cool and he worked long enough,
it would be nice if he recorded with Mudhoney, but that's just me. |
