I'm curating an exhibit on 1980s Minneapolis rock for the Hennepin History Museum. Not suprisingly our collection of objects and materials is pretty slim. Is anybody out there willing to loan or donate anything that would be useful? I'm looking for just about anything. Albums, photos, flyers, posters, ticket stubs, instruments, memorabilia, personal items (supersticious good luck charms), etc. I know I'm new to the site and I don't want to come off as a carpetbagger but I thought it might be worth a shot. All I can do is put myself at your mercy and kindness. The exhibit is scheduled for April of 2001.IP: Logged |

With all of the input you're likely to get here, it'll put the "garage band" section of the Minnesota History Museum's new exhibit to shame!IP: Logged |

Maybe, but my budget is 0.167% of theirs. Just the cross I have to bear I guess. IP: Logged |

I offer to donate my brother Ian.He played bass in a couple local bands, and he'd look pretty cool in a glass case. IP: Logged |

I was thinking of a soaking a cinder block in beer wrapping it up in carpet and cigarette butts and putting it in a garbage bag for a few weeks and then hiding it underneath The Sponge exibit, so that the museum has a historicly acurate smell. IP: Logged |

You really ought to age it all in the dessert for at least 3 weeks for maximum authenticity, Jzzz. And, oh yeah... bite me.IP: Logged |

I was only thinking of the way the Entry smelled, really, nothing personal. I thought the entire exibit should have a ambiance to the one we are all so familiar with. Its not like your boots and socks should be under there, that would just be wrong, in any day or place or age. IP: Logged |

Don't hide it under an exhibit, for true authenticity it should be placed in a bench seat so you can sit in it and wonder what the hell you just sat on.IP: Logged |

It opens on Saturday, April 28 and will stay open for one year. Hope everyone can come, we're a pretty cheap date at $2 a person, plus we have other exhibits too. Thanks to zom, Jzzz, Archiver, Old Guy, spitbite, dyer, and everyone else who helped but I forgot to mention or don't know if they post here. You guys are great (I need a smiley face with a tear coming out of its eye!)IP: Logged |

It's on Third Avenue & 23rd Street, just north of the MIA on the opposite side of the street. Their hours are sort of irregular though so check out their www.hhmuseum.org site for hours, I went over there last week for another look at the exhibit & they were closed!IP: Logged |

Well... The board here at Hennepin History Museum just asked if the show could be extended two more months to June 30. So to all who loaned objects and gave permission to use songs you can expect a call from me in the next few days to ask if we can have it for two more months. Thanks again to everyone who has helped. The exhibit has recently been nominated for an American Association of State and Local History award. Special thanks goes to Methusaleh for her support in the nomination. In regards to the hours we are open: Tuesday 10-2 Wednesday 1-5 Thursday 1-8 Friday 1-5 Saturday 1-5 Sunday 1-5 [This message has been edited by stu (edited 03-20-2002).] IP: Logged |
