My dear old father couldn't stand the fact that I had a mohawk he was always embarrassed by it and he had no problems saying so .We once had such an argument over my hair that I ended up getting kicked out of the house for it. but one thing he did I thought was cool, one day when we were in a store together this one guy started ragging on me about how I looked and would not leave me alone. well my father saw what was going on and said "leave my daughter alone!" and he was yelling at the guy and threatening to get into a fight with him had he not backed off. I thought that was pretty cool.

My dad wasn't too thrilled with my fashion, either. But one Fourth of July ('86, I think) he came into Minneapolis to visit me. A bunch of friends were planning on going to Lake Calhoun to watch fireworks, and I jokingly asked if he wanted to go. He said "Sure!" So we all crammed into the back of a van, me, dad, and many other spikey-haired punks, and went to the beach. He had a great time, and made several comments the likes of "Geez, all these people staring at you...don't they know realize they look pretty stupid themselves??" He still mentions it and what fun it was. Just thought that was pretty neat.

My dad is cooler than I am. How sucky is that?

Every* time I run into someone from the old days, I swear* this is what I hear:

"Tim! I haven't seen you in ages! Saw your dad last night..."

When I was getting ready for school one morning my mother stopped me and was complaining about my makeup. I was all punked out. She was giving me a hard time; saying makeup makes girls look cheap, etc. My father came in just then, and remarked how pretty I looked. HA! Father *does* know best!

I would give the cool parent nod to Ellie Poore. Mother of Missy/Jessica. She opened her home to Shawn P, Linda L to name a few. Bought me bags of groceries when I was 16 living off of free Reagan cheese. (God i was embarressed)

She was so kind to everyone. Her door was always open. Mitchell did you stay at Ellies?

83 or 84 I had grey spikey hair and "Ed Gein Fan Club" written in duct tape on the back of my jacket. Me and my dad were going into the McD's on 88 and Nicollet. My dad said that maybe I should leave the jacket in the car. I told him to give me some cash, I'd wait 5 minutes after he went in, sit no where near him and leave after he went out to the car so as no one would know we were together. He thought about it for a few seconds and told me to shut the hell up and go with him into the resturaunt.

My folks showed up at the first gig I did wiht Iron Fist. They stood in the back with fingers in ears. After the show they said that they had to come and support me. Then they told me never to expect them at another show!

Urf! As a first generation punk. I expect my child will either rebell or get more stylish than I am. As it is now, at seven years-old he's much more cool than you punks!

1.Letting 18 (mostly crusty looking)people stay at our house after a punk show I helped put on...One of the guys was walking around in boxer briefs when my Ma walked in with blankets for people...he was embarrassed just a lil bit I think! The same guy bonded with my Dad the next day (I was told my Dad was teary eyed when they left, I went to the next show so I didnt see0
2.my folks drove me from the Houston TX area to Dayton ohion for a "punkfest" in 95 (me and pal Bob who they dropped off in Columbus gave em gas dinero, and they did touristy stuff in Ohio Amish land afterwards).
Driving like a day and ahalf to drop off their son in some hick looking spot outside of Dayton with Assrash members milling about... I think they were worried!!!

anyone remember ANimal Farm from Wisconson? They were touring and had a coupla shows flake out so they stayed at my friend Bobs house for a few days before the show, where his Granny (who tends to be a paranoid yet very nice woman at times)bonded with them (especially Wendy O Matik, who was doing spoken word with em) and cried when they left

hey....I'm new here...i'd like to say hi...
Well heres my story about this cool thing my dad did that saved my ass one time..
It was about last year and I was waiting for my Dad to pick me up at Trio Pizza in Millerton, which is a really good pizza palor there and these fucken red necks start picking on me and are making fun of my spiked hair....one them even ripped a pin off my jacket..
All of a sudden my dad pulls up and leaps out the truck and punched this redneck right in the nose...and said if they did anything to me again that he blow there fucking head off...
Man.....I got lucky that night...
From then on I went to Millerton with at least 5 friends and a lead pipe in my jacket..

When I first got my nose pierced my whole family hated it. It was the first time I got shit from my grandparents, even. I was over at my dad's and I walked past him in the living room. He said to wait a second, and he started scrutinizing my face. "You know," he said, "I really like the way that looks."

Hey, if Dead Swedish Girl is supposed to be a clever reference to Minnesotans, you should be aware that the majority of Minnesotans are of German descent. If not, I suppose people here would expect me to complain about it....

My band had been gigging for a while now and my poor mother finally got up the nerve to go see us. I had horrible visions of her leaving after 2 songs with her fingers in her ears or making loud comments or god knows what.

Back then, our motto was "better living through extreme amplification". If you couldn't feel it, it wasn't worth it.

To her credit, not only did she stay the night but she professed that she enjoyed it and thought that all the work we'd put in practicing to everyones annoyance was "worth it".

She passed away in '98 but I took that as tacit approval that it was okay to keep playing blazing guitar into my thirties and beyond.

My Dad says his only toy in his life was his shoe leather. When he finished playing with his shoe leather, he then had to eat it.

My Pa was in Boise, ID for his job for a week. One night while walking around downtown Boise with a co-worker, he saw the Rev. Horton Heat was playing that night. He said "My kids like that guy" and made the other guy go with him. They both loved it. He and my Ma also started smoking pot again about two years ago and were quite embarassed when my sis and I found out.

my mom was always a pretty good sport about my appearance. one day whilst we were in line at Rainbow foods in St. Louis Park some old fucker got on my case about my hair color and how i was bouncing around and having fun. my mom EXPLODED on this ol' cunt and his wife about how i was a sweet kid and that they're generation fucked everything with the bomb. i think my mom has issues with pre-babyboomers. and that the world would be a better place if people acted the way they wanted to instead of the way they're s'posed to. so even though she'd never help me with my mohawk, she'd kill a man for me i'm sure of it!
