It happened around 2:30. When I was over there they were kicking people out of the crystal court. It looked like they had plastic up around him.IP: Logged |

I was there like a minute before it happened, he was lying there with no head and his insides were up on his chest. He fell into one of those wooden benches by the water fountain and shattered it. Really disturbing......IP: Logged |

I hear it was a window washer. Maybe this was just an accident. I'm sure OSHA will be looking into that. Then again, if I was a window washer for a living.... IP: Logged |

What I always wonder is what's going through the minds of the people who work in the IDS Tower when all of a sudden, they're sitting at their desk, they look up, and some guy falls right past their window. Do they call 911? Do they just sit there in shock? Do they get up and run over to the window to look at the big mess that he made all over the pavement? Or do they just say to themselves "I must be imagining things! I could have sworn I just saw somebody falling past my window!" IP: Logged |

That's what I mean. I like architecture and when I walk to and from work or to lunch downtown, I'm always looking up at the top of the buildings to check out the styles, etc. Not even taking the messy landing into account, just to see a body fall from the top of one of those buildings would make me lose it. It's like seeing a plane or car crash - that icky feeling of knowing someone is biting it.IP: Logged |

i was walking out of the i.d.s. about a year ago, and was dive bombed by a suicidal pidgeon that had flown into the glass. it hurt like hell. i often wonder what would have happened to me if that was a person, other than i'd be a dead pancake...IP: Logged |

Unfortunately, I unwittingly walked into the Crystal Court *before* they closed it off. I have no stomach for that. I feel numb and queasy. I really hope it wasn't an accident (there's a window broken on the top floor, so it seems unlikely). Either way it is a sad deal.

Years ago my sister worked in the Government Center and heard a huge thud that was a person who jumped from, I think, the 17th floor. They were splattered all over the fountain.I used to work on the 31st Floor of the IDS Tower and once we had a cracked window. As they fixed it we had to be very far from it because as they removed the glass you could easily be sucked out the window from the pressure. It was freaky. IP: Logged |

I've been e-mailed a pic of someone who jumped out a 50th-something window in NYC. It's incredibly harsh, but I have to admit I was curious about...you know, what happens. After discussing it with RC I've decided not to even link the image (with many warnings) to this page. If any of you sick bastards really want to see it, e-mail me at the address on my profile and I'll forward you the image.IP: Logged |

There are two really degenerate sites where you can check out morbid, disgusting stuff (I was overcome by curiousity and then couldn't shake the images for a few days- it's pretty rude.) "sickanddisgusting(dot-com)" is the lighter weight of the two, and "Rotten(dot-com)" is the heavy hitter. I got the sick and disgusting one when I was bored one day, and I was just typing in phrases into the web adress thingy. Rottendotcom came from transworld surf. There's always a couple quality sites there.IP: Logged |

That place is freaky! I get queasy every time I go in there. You'd almost think that that place had been designed so as to facilitate people who wanted to commit suicide. At least they finally built a wall along the walkways, so as to cut down on the number of people plummeting to their deaths. With all the people on the street, its sort of amazing that no one's gotten hit by any of the people that have jumped. IP: Logged |

The man who jumped to his death from the 51st floor of the IDS tower in Minneapolis was identified today as Donnell Walker, 30, of Minneapolis. In releasing the identity, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said Walker died Tuesday afternoon after an apparent suicide and that an autopsy was scheduled for today. Walker entered an office on the 51st floor of the downtown building, knocked out a window and jumped. He fell through a plexiglass ceiling over the Crystal Court and landed near a fountain outside Au Bon Pain restaurant about 2:30 p.m. A woman suffered minor injuries from shards of glass or plexiglass. Police cleared people from the Crystal Court and closed off access to the area. Pieces of glass were hanging from the ceiling, and police feared they might fall The building's businesses were scheduled to reopen today. In 1996, a 32-year-old man who apparently was despondent over financial troubles used a 10-pound barbell to smash quarter-inch-thick glass and then jumped to his death from the 30th floor of the building. Employees had tried for 10 minutes to talk him out of jumping, which gave police time to clear the courtyard.IP: Logged |

My roommate was one of the gawkers on the skyway level of the Crystal Court right after the guy landed. He got a good look at the carnage - and right before he left this goth girl standing next to him just said, "cool..."IP: Logged |

A tempting offer, but it just wouldn't mean as much as seeing the remains of our own IDS suicide victim. I like to maintain that, uh...local flavor. IP: Logged |
