"PAGANS ARE BRAGGING THAT LUCIFERIC SHOWS ARE CAUSING AN EXPLOSION OF PEOPLE SEEKING TO BECOME WITCHES AND WIZARDS! "Yeah, i hate it when you go to see Gnomes of Zurich or the Shrimprockers and everyone leaves wanting to be witches and wizards. I blame Harry Potter. He's EVIL! My friend Jason read all the Harry Potter books and then he just dissapeared! What do you suppose happened? I'll bet it was Satan. IP: Logged |

I don't want to overstate the obvious but,WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??!!?? When I was 13, my mother took away my Dungeons and Dragons books for three months. No major tragedy, but she did it because a woman at church was passing out literaure that said the same sort of ridiculous crap about D&D. That it revealed satanic secrets and how to summon demons. SUMMON DEMONS!!??!! What fucking century is it? And, honestly, would anyone really want to summon a demon? The reason this stuff scares me: Right now, times are good. People in America are eating, working, and enjoying relatively free lives. That may not always be the case. In bad social and/or economic decline, people look for answers in this type of shit. People who try to say what's OK, and what's not OK, to put in your head are dangerous and should be watched closely.

I recently read the first H.P. book. I was on an airplane and I wanted an easy read that didn't take too much brain power. The Harry Potter book worked. I enjoyed it; it was fast and easy, but fun. Will I read another? I don't know, maybe one day, if there's one laying around or I'm bored. However, first up when I have time is the new Irvine Welsh book, "Glue," that I have sitting on my dresser. I can't say anything bad about Potter, but I often like a bit more thought provoking works for myself.IP: Logged |

These are the same people who think that Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne have enough brain power to think up backwards masking on records. Its called scapegoating to make up for your own faliure as a parent/preacher/authority figure. (And I'm not bagging on your mom, I meant the wider spectrum of "those people") IP: Logged |

I don't know, Beving. I thought that this was a bunch of bullshit myself, until I did a quick search of backmasking. After checking out these sites; I'm convinced that this is intentional manipulation. This is all plain evil. Check out this site: http://www.theadventurers.com/index Now, I'm headed to church, and also, I don't know if I can hangout with you people any longer. IP: Logged |

I know someone who used to hate computers. and another person (me) who used to think that internet chatrooms were "creepy" Those were the days, i tell ya. Back then, things were simple. None of this fancy "havin' ta think fer yerself" or "figurin' stuff out" IP: Logged |

I guess that's the part that gets to me. These people are afraid of anything new or different. They're afraid of Harry Potter fer cryin' out loud! If i don't start out on some new adventure every so often i start to feel like i've stagnated.HEY "FUNDAMENTALIST" CHRISTIANS! your kids are going to think about drugs and sex no matter what you do. Try giving them some practical guidance and telling them that there are realistic concequences for their actions instead of taking away their favorite book and filling thier head with the mumbo jumbo of some outdated faith. Are you trying to put the idea in my head that it's not OK to try to put ideas in people's heads? The last thing I want to do is watch these people closely, in case you haven't noticed, watching people closely is what they're doing [This message has been edited by Aspirin (edited 07-09-2001).] IP: Logged |

No doubt. Never been much of a "joiner" On a semi-related note to this thread.. did anyone read George Will's editorial last week just blasting Catcher in the Rye? Easily the dumbest shit I've ever heard him spew.

On the Simpson's last night, Flanders was reading to Rod/Todd from a Harry-Potter-esque book and read him something to the effect of "and then all the children studying witchcraft died and went to hell." Rod/Todd went "Yay!!" Can't find that episode transcript yet, dammit.IP: Logged |

Here is some info from the Flat Earth Society Home Page, available at: www.flat-earth.org They're serious, ya know!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information pertaining to the Flat Earth Society, its history, membership and operations. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Flat Earth Society is a nonpartisan, non-profit and nondenominational membership organisation dedicated to improving the understanding of the nature of reality through pataphysical inquiry, empirical investigation and the exchange of ideas. hile the Society is not a "crackpot" group, it is opposed to the fashionable, politically correct Spherical Earth theory, which is expounded every day by so-called "scientists", the media and political leaders. The Society asserts that the Earth is flat and has five sides, that all places in the Universe named Springfield are merely links in higher-dimensional space to one place, and that all assertions are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true false and meaningless in some sense. The Society was founded in 1993 by Lee H.'. O.'. Smith, EMF KYTP. The bulk of the Society has a trilateral structure, with operations in North America, the British Isles and Australasia. The Society's operations are overseen by appointed Established Major Figures, with a contact group of three EMFs (one from each sphere of influence) concerned with day-to-day administration. Additionally, some global administrative tasks are performed by the Chairperson Dei Gratia. Members of the Society come from all walks of life, and are typically nominated for merit by current Established Major Figures. Members of the Society are active in many areas of culture, science and public life. IP: Logged |
