I've had something like this, I almost always know I'm dreaming and have even asked people in my dream "what time is it?"
"oh, thanks, I've got to get up and go to work." useually its all great fun but
more than a few times about fifteen thru ten years ago I would think I had woken up in my bed finding it nearly impossible to move my limbs except in grueling increments, struggle to turn on my light only to discover
the bulb was blown, then I'd go "Wait a minuet, I must be dreaming." I would try and wake myself up and repeat as necessary until I would finally awake and find the room looked different from in the dream and the lightbulb working. only rarely was there anybody else in this dream and they never held me down or spooked me, or probed my nether reigons and was definitely someone alive whom I knew.
It always occurred while going to sleep
and was often preceded by strange body rushes that came in waves.
Very frustrating and I guess I still attribute it to high stress and I'm glad it stopped.

Jzzz! Oh my god!
I know exactly what you're talking about! I've never been able to explain it to anyone as well as you just did, but that used to happen to me fairly frequently about 6 years ago. Mine was scarier, though, I think, because the dreams always took place wherever I had happened to fall asleep.. i.e. the couch, bed, whatever. So it would seem to be reality, I could see the clock, TV, whatever, but there would be like a monsterous presence in the room with me, and I couldn't move, and was never sure I was dreaming. Except, if my boyfriend was in bed with me when I fell asleep, he would be gone in the dream. Either that or he would change into this monster. And yes, this only happened when I was first falling asleep. I used to think of it as if I had fallen asleep wrong, or something. I would have to force myself to wake up and then try to fall asleep the RIGHT way, if that makes sense. I would always know it was going to happen again when i got those weird dizzying body rushes you mentioned. It almost felt like being on a really sickening amusement park ride for your brain.
I never did figure out what was going on... those body rushes still happen to me every once in awhile, but I've trained myself to wake up before I fall asleep like that.
I know, I sound like a nutcase, right?

Sound familiar. Did you get to hear the "buzzing" sound too? That usually accompanies the ride. And don't believe the scientific explanations. Always trying to ruin your fun with logical, medical explanations. If you saw a monster, well then there was a monster in your room.

Yes! I forgot about the buzzing! A thick and heavy, opressive sound.
WTF????

I've had that before, the feeling of paralysis. There's a lot of scientists who can explain it as a physical phenomenon, and they believe that a lot of alien abduction scenarios start with the feeling of paralysis and later through hypnosis, the person starts to invent an abduction scenario for themselves. They say the paralysis feeling is completely normal, a little-understood function of the brain. Personally, those feelings stopped for me after I began wearing my lead helmet to bed and showering. Don't let those tin-foil freaks fool you -- tin foil is 100% ineffective against alien mind control. You have to use lead. Those tin foil freaks are just plain crazy. Don't forget the showering -- that's where they get you when you're not looking and then blammo.

And when you had just woken from one and knew it was happening again, I'll stick with the crazy music and please.

I still cant get over your story Farm Girl,

I saw some TV show where they could actually induce that state in people who were just about to fall asleep by putting a motorcycle helmet equipped with really low voltage electromagnets in specific locations surrounding the brain and turning them on and off in certain patterns. Most of the time they had the paralysis and the feeling like something was in the room (in this case they were trying to explain alien abduction).

I think the best solution is to live right next to the highest voltage power lines you can, because the tiny little fluctuating magnetic fields that the subterranean homesick aliens use to make you think you're paralyzed can't work in the high intensity magnetic fields surrounding large current carrying power lines.

Thanks! I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one with sleep paralysis. It's really weird though, because it only happened at my brother's house. I can't recall it ever happening before or since. I have had a few times where I was dreaming that I was already up and getting ready for work, but was fast asleep after 'accidently' hitting 'off' instead of 'snooze'. Then when I wake up and I realize that I should have been at work a half hour ago. That really pisses me off!

Lots of gangster shit happening in St. Paul in the 20s and 30s. To me, it's really fascinating, the corruption of the Police and Mayor's office, the O'Connor plan, etc. I grew up on the corner where the Barker-Karpis gang kidnapped Edward Bremer, and two blocks from where Dillinger and Homer Van Meter shot their way out of an apartment building when cornered by the FBI, so local lore was pretty well steeped in the gangster days. There are supposedly ghosts in the Landmark Center, which used to be the courthouse where many gangsters were tried, and the Wabasha caves on the West Side, just across the river from downtown St. Paul. A great book, if you're interested, is John Dillinger Slept Here: A Crook's Tour of Crime and Corruption in Saint Paul, 1920-1936 by Paul Maccabee.

Last year around Halloween there were a bunch of haunted tours. I never went on any but I talked to a couple of friends who took one and they thought it was pretty interesting. Wonder if they're going to do it again this year? Another TCPunk outing anyone?

I know a semi-famous semi-retired Mpls rock God who receives a monthly Social Security check because he convinced some wishy-washy bureaucrat that he was abducted by aliens who implanted a chip in his head and he is incapable of honest work. He has at least 10 TVs in his house running 24/7.

I know another semi-famous retired Mpls rock God who was drunker than a fucking monkey after a long night in the bar car riding back from New Orleans on the train.
He had his little suitcase in his hand and was yelling at the porters and conductors:
:Hey you assholes, drop me off on 24th and Garfield!!" Problem was the train was in the middle of Missouri.

OK. SO in that other thread I have spoke of my ghost. Well Saturday was the first time I SAW her. I was in the kitchen and I saw someone's hair as they walked down the hallway towards the dining room. She was about 5'5" with dark brown long hair. I focused as she walked closer and then when the refrigerator blocked my view, she was gone. It raised the hair on my arms it was so freaky.

I saw her at 2:00 in the afternoon though. It was weird. She has been very active lately too. Lots of door closings, lights being turned on and off. I don't get what excites her.

mrs. bot used to work in the state capitol building, apparently a very haunted place.
she has alot of stories about an elevator that takes people on rides to other dimensions and a story about a room where a legislator hung himself in the 1930's thats used as a staff lounge now. apparently if you go in at nite you see the shadow of a fella hanging there. the actual story is far more creepy than my second hand account. also a smoking lounge where apparitions like to play outside of the windows.
