Word has it that Mpls. was near the top of the priority target list for Soviet missiles. (That spelling looks really strange, hmmm.) Local companies like Honeywell, Alliant Techsystems, General Mills, Control Data, Cargill and the CC Club would have been responsible for turning our fair city into a glass parking lot. I thank Ronald Reagan every morning that we got to live to see this day. I'm proud to be an American...*sniff*IP: Logged |

Chemicals were dropped over the neighborhood with St. Stephens' Church/School (22nd/Stevens) back in the 50's, the defense dept. wanted to see the dispersal patterns. Lotsa people were unknowingly poisoned with low levels. Think it was just coincidental that Birdman and Chief Walks Alone called this neighborhood home for most of their lives?IP: Logged |

There was apparently a lot of gangster action around St. Paul back in the day. There is a thread about all the underground tunnels in Minneapolis. Can someone help me out here!? F. Scott Fitzgerald lived on Summit Avenue. Judy Garland was born in Grand Rapids, MN (woo hoo). The Cohen Brothers (Fargo, Big Labowski) are supposedly from St. Louis Park. Tator Tot hotdish is apparently all the rage!

DO NOT go into the bathrooms of Har Mar Mall alone. A girl using the bathroom alone was injected with something and a woman was carrying her out saying "my daughter is sick" when the real mother of the girl shows up... I believed it for years! On a more realistic note, We have a ghost named Seven who lived at our house.Shortly after we moved in, when my daughter was 2, she said "there's a man upstairs. His name is Seven." We didn't think anything of it but every few days she would say something else about Seven. " His dad is named Matt. He comes with him some times." "Sometimes he goes to the numbers house to see bees and haney." On Memorial day she said he told her he didn't get any flowers on his deck. I started doing the geneology of our house for the Historical society. The house was buily in 1920 by a Swedish immigrant named MATT Lindgren. His oldest son, SVEN, lived in the house until he died in 1967, crushed to death at the granite quarries! My neighbor told me her housde had been known as the 'Honey house' because the owner raised BEES and HONEY!(Numbers House, Bees and Haney. Swedish accent!) I told several people who had known Sven, and they said he loved kids. During this time, my daughter picked up a photo of the Lindgren family, pointed to Sven and said, "That's my Seven!" When my daughter was 4, she said Seven was going away. I got word later that his favorite brother had just died in the nursing home. She hasn't seen Seven since.[This message has been edited by farm girl (edited 08-16-2001).] IP: Logged |

The guy who built the Foshey tower named it after himself and he had gold faucets on his sink and he lived on the top floor and he bezzled alot of money and he had to jump off of it and his house had secret tunnels that went to the sewer and stuff. (True at least about the embezzling and the secret tunnels in his house)

I really never knew what to think of ghosts and stuff until something happened to me a few years ago. I was staying at my brother's house. He lived in St. Paul near Como Park on Iowa Street. I actually didn't spend many nights there because I stayed at my boyfriend's house most nights. But each time I did stay at my brother's house, something invisible would hold me to my bed in the morning when I wanted to get up. I could see the time passing on my alarm clock, but I couldn't move or even say anything. I remember I would be screaming in my head for this thing to let me go. At first I was scared, but then I would just get pissed, and once I got pissed, I would slowly be able to move and get out of bed. I'd be like, "Goddammit I'm going to be late for work~!!!" And during the whole thing - which would last anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes - I could smell the distinctive scent of mens cologne - a kind that wasn't my brothers - or anything he would wear. When I was able to move, the scent would disappear within a minute. The first time it happened, I thought it was just a really bad dream that seemed real and freaky, but it happened each of the 5 times I stayed there. (I was never drinking those nights either.) After the second time, I asked my brother if anyone had complained from sleeping in that room before and he said no and mentioned all the people that have slept in that room...they were all guys. So I'm guessing that this 'guy ghost' or whatever just likes to control sleeping girls. Sick bastard. ( I swear it's true!)IP: Logged |

First Avenue's website has a story about ghosts that are supposed have been seen there. Someone also mentioned that the basement in particular creeps a lot of people out and that there are people who refuse to go down there. Can anyone give us their paranormal 1st Ave experiences?IP: Logged |

I've heard way better First Ave ghost stories.. but one time, Superball 63 was up in that back room in the upstairs NW corner, taking pics for that Du Huskers tribute thing. There was a disco ball that had been hanging there for god knows how long, what the hell, we'll take pics underneath that. Sure enough, the wire broke and that thing fell right on my head.IP: Logged |

One time I went down there to grab another beer, and caught this lesbian squatting in the middle of the floor with a veritable fucking lake spreading around her. I guess she was pissed off at one of the bands on the bill or something. That pee-on-beer-spill-on-dank-concrete smell still haunts me to this day, everytime I'm there.[This message has been edited by Orbit (edited 08-23-2001).] IP: Logged |

I can't name the source but I have a friend whose parents lived near Lake Calhoun and both his sisters had the same thing happen to them in the basement bedroom...some unseen force pressing them down to the bed, unable to move until it let them up. IP: Logged |

The sensation of being held down, paralyzed, or whatever, is common with "out of body" experiences. I've had this happen to me several times, but quite a few years ago. And don't say I was high when this happened to me, at that point in my life my only drug experience was with alcohol. What usually happened was, I'd be lying down, not asleep, when I would feel paralyzed, yet conscious, but couldn't move or vocalize. Sometimes I felt like I was sliding down, like something was pulling at me, but other times I actually "floated" up and could see things in my room from above, such as myself lying in the bed. Unfortunately, it hasn't happened to me in many years. It usually scared the crap out of me as well, because you are completely powerless. It was exciting and fun in a scary way. I never saw or heard any paranormal activity in the four years I worked at the Ave. I was often there when only the janitor was present, and never felt the least bit spooky. I know that some ashtrays went flying off the tables in the mainroom for no reason, I didn't see it but the people I worked with did. It happened when the club wasn't open, the ashtray would just fly off the table and crash onto the dancefloor. No ectoplasm or anything. What's the story with Scott's drum cases?IP: Logged |

I can't find the First Ave. ghost stories link either. http://www.tcpunk.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000022.html I do remember hanging out in the VIP room with just Joe Lyons bartending, nobody else. I asked Joe what he thought of all the First Ave. ghost stories. Before he said a word...the lights went out in the VIP room and came back on after a couple of seconds. We just looked at each other and smiled, didn't talk about it again.

You just described all the symptoms of sleep paralysis! Apparently your body doesn't move while your dreaming, and sometimes your mind will wake up with your body still like this. While paralyzed people can freak out and see shit or think someone else is there (Some people put all those alien and rectal probe encounters as products of tabloids and sleep paralysis). After I read about this I started noticing that it happens a lot to me, I just wrote it off as bad dreams prerviously. IP: Logged |
