A while back, there were two major pinball making companies. Then Williams bought out its competitor...and shortly thereafter shut down its pinball division. Pinball games aren't currently being made.

So what classics will you never get tired of. I'm currently addicted to the Monster Bash game.

We used to have our man Fred Richardson around.. I think he still lives around here. He used to do sound for 3 Car Garage, Urge Overkill, etc. He won some big time pinball tourneys in his day.

i'm not much of a pinball player,
but watching Pirner play Pinbot is the closest thing to Tommy i have seen.
he'd put in a quad, play for an hour and leave with dozens of games on the machine.
when i commented on the display he replied,
"Pinbot is my love slave."

One time Fred and his partner were competing at the World Championships in Chicago (one of many times).. for the final rounds, they'd bring out new models, ones they hadn't had a chance to practice on. They made it into the finals, but for the finals, they brought out some ancient machine, with tons of open space. They wound up losing, though I'm pretty sure they have won the worlds champeenship in the past.

I've played the shit out of --
Earthshaker
Addams Family
Terminator 2
Whirlwind

and a bunch of other ones, but Williams machines were always my fav. Sucks they won't make them anymore. Really sucks.

Best pinball moment -- 750,000,000 on Addams Family. Toured the Mansion twice, played maybe 11 or 12 balls on that one game. Murdered the 500 mil high score.

I remember one day that the Williams rep
was at First Ave, absolutly the the finest display of pinballery I ever witnessed.

Haunted House is a lot of fun. I found one, a lone pinball machine in a Heathrow airport corridor when I was stuck there for an afternoon and over night. I blew it apart first play. Jamming and popping and slaping
it silly, people were stoping to watch the crazed american in a public display of unabashed pinball fury.

Anybody ever try that flipperless baseball payoff pinball?

Black Knight. The first game that had multiball. Drained many a quarter in that game.

Pinball 1973 (Haruki Murakami) is a great book for those who obsess over pinball. After I read it I went to Pop's Arcade so frequently that I was their Business Person of the Year 2000. Top that!!

Also check out (lists *every* pinball machine):

When I was a kid my aunt and uncle had a 60's pinball game called Aquarius in their basement, I played the SHIT outta that game.

Monster Bash at the 3x Rock took alot of my $$$. How can you beat famous monsters rocking out?

In about 1986 I had the chance to buy an Elton John Pinball Wizard game for $200. I didn't have the cash or any way of coming up with it. I'm still kicking myself.

I've been playing the hell out of NBA Fastbreak at Shorty's, my local pinball arcade. What is Lymon "silk" sheets going to do now that nobody makes pinball anymore? He was behind such newer classics such as Attack from Mars and Medievil Madness.

I love Shorty's! Good beers, decent prices, and a damn fine coney. I'm daydreaming of a trip out there. they've always had some good machines.

a friend was playing black knight right after it came out. he's in the midst of multiball when a woman who's never seen this new multiball thing, comes over and says loudly, "look at all patrick's balls".......then he had his first multidrain.

Addams Family is my fave. Star Wars is awesome if everything works. Road Show will do in a pinch.

All time favorites:
-Adams Family
-Attack from Mars (CLASSIC!)
-Monster Bash (the monster moshpit totally ruuuules!)

-Medieval Madness
-Fish Tales
-Star Wars (the original, not the cheesey Sega version or the Pinball 2000 version)

Total stinkers (these games suck, and the ball drains really easily):
-T2
-Eightball Delux
-SEGA pinball games like South Park

Bad idea:
Pinball 2000
Three-quarter sized games with interchangeable parts and very little substance. The original idea was that instead of getting totally new machines every few years, the pinball customers would simply trade in the old computer program for a new one along with a new placemat to go over the top of the old machine. Only two were ever made: -Revenge from Mars, and Star Wars Episode I. They also has the distinction of being the last pinball machines that Bally-Williams ever made.

See, South Park is the ONLY sega game I've ever liked and one of the many tv shows that I don't. Why do I like: You flip about six times on 50 cents. Monster Bash is kind of the same. It's fun but too easy to complete and then what...

Fuck.

I go to the Triple Rock yesterday evening to play the new Attack From Mars (name?) pinball game, and it's broken. Billy said he'd called the repair guy at 10 am and the jerk still hadn't shown, so I shot darts in the cold, depressing, no-music-having side room to mixed results.
Then I go to Big V's, and their machine is broken too. What the fuck? Who do I have to blow to get a working machine at a goddamn rock and roll bar?
Also, I wish the Turf Club would get Monopoly back. The Playboy game was fun about once.

ARgh!
Same thing happened to me yesterday at the TR, so we wound up playing Golf instead. Then shooting aliens at Delano's.

My favorite 3 games: Medieval Madness, Addams Family, Attack from Mars.

Because that one was, quite literally, impossible to tilt. Draining? No problem. Pick the machine up.

PINBOT!! I used to play it at the Tub ('96-97) in Dinkytown while doing my laundry. Love it.

Addams Family is definitely the all time fav. I had the Grand Champion score on the machine we had at work - 417 million. "Who says you can't take it with you?!"

We had T2: Judgement Day for awhile. It was ok. Arnold's voice on it was great, "Get the Supah Jackpot!"

Wait. How did you know that is how I won free games! That machine seems to be match happy, or I just lucked out! I did get really close to actually earning a free game!
