Vintage Music on 38th Street South. If you're looking for a 1900's Edison Phonograph!

Just go there and drool over the 78's. It's fun.

I took possesion of the family Victrola and as soon as I got it here one of the spring drums broke. I was surprised I can get the part replaced and the rest of the motor refurbished for a decent price. They have quite a few records there and the needles I'll need. The needles are only good for about 2 or 3 plays so you buy them by the hundred.

So my wife wants one like this (from Restoration Hardware. $129) She doesn't care if it is not great quality, she wants to be able to set it up in the kitchen, or upstairs or on the back deck and listen to her old vinyl. I supose thats cool. I got a better one set up with my stereo system in the Music Dungeon so a cheap portable one would not be so bad.

Her birthday is coming up...

Restoration Hardware appeals to my inner-consumerist yuppie. I love that place!

Ignore it and maybe it'll go away. I'm old but I'm not gay, why would anyones sexual preference matter to this "polishgangbang" three poster unless he's cruising for a date. Just another idiot that doesn't realize that most of the music he listens to can be traced back to early jazz, delta blues, etc.

I've got several record players that play 78s, I'm thinking of selling one that needs some work, it's huge, (15-inch woofer!) tube, has a working AM radio, but the record player part needs something, probably nothing major. It could look real nice with some refinishing, it's nice wood veneer and was made in Minneapolis! Also plays 33 and 45 RPM.

Y'know what'd go good with that record player? The Shun Mook Record Clamp:

quote:
A legendary Shun Mook product now being made in a very, very limited number. This record clamp is made from extremely rare pieces of dried ebony briar. This extra heavy century old ebony root which were immersed in the swamps of Africa has a unique power that no other wood possesses. The vibration generated by the diamond stylus in the vinyl groove besides inducing an electroflux through the phono-cartridge also excites the ebony molecules, causing it to resonate. This in turn is feed back through the stylus and is reproduced as expanded sound staging, enhanced separation, sharpened focus and enriched tonal balance of the music. Due to the rareness of this timber, there is no doubt that it will become a collector item in the future.

Only $895!

Hmmm.. I too have considered one of these gagets for my hb for x-mas. thought it would be cool for him to play his albums with our young one or even bring it to work. The restoration hardware price appeals to me.. more suggestions from you guys would be helpful!

I was actually at the Galleria and walked by that crazy shop with all the outragious electonics that cost WAY too much. They had a recordplayer/cd player suitecase type thing going for around $300 or so. It was pretty flashy but too spendy. Don't know if it had a diamond head needle - this is important? What about "groove marks" etc.?

My extreme geek neighbor guy actually talks like this casually over our backyard fence. I try to avoid that guy at all costs.
