Do I need to? If so which OS, and how do I go about doing it?

The smart-ass answer would be "Yes, upgrade to Linux."

The other (dumb-ass?) answer would be, if what you've got works for you, then there's no compelling reason to upgrade. It'll keep working for you.

If you're staying on the Windoze track, XP is the next natural progression. Need a little more horsepower than required for Win98 tho. Check Microsquishy's website for requirements and if you are interested in XP shoot me an e-mail.

I'm not really a window's guy but XP is the least buggy OS microsoft has put out. I've been running it for quite awhile now and have had minimal problems.

Even the haxxor version that I have of XP works well.

One other question. Are you running the first or second edition of 98?

I dunno, probably the 2nd. I bought the box from Gen Nano 2 years ago and had them install it.

my 2 cents. don't go w/ XP. Security flaws galore, a smart-install system that doesn't let you do some hardware/software upgrades and the ability of MS to "observe" what you are doing/buying/running/using. I'd go w/ win2000 or wait for the new win2000.net (or whatever it will be called) coming out next year. btw, I have read anything win9x and NT4 will be unsupported by MS in 2004.

Fair warning: Running the latest OS on 2-yr-old hardware will slow you down. And probably break a bunch of your old software.
