CNN has a forum for proposals on how the World Trade Center site should be rebuilt. Click here to see some. They mostly suck, my favorite being the one with two fully rebuilt towers with the addition of a skyway connecting them. I can't believe anyone who saw even one minute of TV coverage of 9/11 would set one foot on a skyway like that.

Let's be smartasses and put a statue of Mohammad and Jesus holding guns at each others heads to signify the misinterpretation of religions. No wait... howabout a giant mosque? That should piss everyone off. Or wait... howabout a statue of a corporate white man in a suit and tie buttfucking an arab, with a native American and an African waiting in line. Everyday Americans can bring offerings to this statue, like a chopped down tree from a protected forest, or a dead animal from the endangered species list, or our 401K checks.

i looked at those proposals before and i hated them all. they all looked the same. i think they should leave the damn site alone, make it into a park. i wouldn't ever go into another building built on the grouds.
i may be way off here (as i often am), but i was under the impression that the builders of the original twin towers had to get special permission to build because they were too big. why would anyone want to replace them, especially after what we know can now happen to them?

This shouldn't even be an issue. What the site needs is a Wal-Mart.

That twisty wirey one with the glass teardrop at the top that is supposed to be the same height as the towers was good, too.

A hover building would be cool. Or maybe a cave. Or maybe a treehouse.

You could have like a hot air balloon with a ladder hanging down to an igloo in a tree with a tire swing and a knotted rope going down to the ground where there would be an outhouse with a moon carved into the door and from there you could have access to a cave. And there would also be a guitar shaped swimming pool that would be up in the tree too.

I still like the two blue beams of light that were set near Ground Zero earlier this year.

Aside from the financial & memorial/commemoration issues associated with this site are property owner issues & a potential landswap; the WTC buildings themselves were only leased to a person, Larry Silverstein. According to the NY Times, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the trade center site and leases Kennedy and La Guardia Airports, might be willing to swap the WTC site to the City of NY in exchange for ownership of the airports; negotiations begin today. My head hurts just thinking about this process...

I like the email that came around last fall of the new buildings looking like a hand giving the finger to the East.

According to my friend who live in New York. the land is too valuable to be turn into a park. So no one knows what to do about it. But for sure there will be buildings.
But where's Owen!! I'm sure he got a lot to say bout this, since he's a New Yorker.

...

Maybe Thomas Kincade could design a pituresque crack house, like the kind we used to have.

They had two spot lights pointing straight up for a period. It was incredibly poignant and rang true. Like the towers, you could see it from my front stoop. I wish they'd leave it at that. The sadness that surrounds that day leaves me speechless. I wish we could just leave that ground alone.

fuck the "land value"

no one is gonna want to set foot in a huge structure there (or near there) ever again.

build it into a park and be done with it.

(a dog park would be really cool)

That's the problem nowaday!! Everything is about the land value! Let's tore down a 100 yrs bldg (good shape) and build a high tower. Blecchhh!! I do agree with turning the land into memorial park. We will never forget that day.

AUGUST 14, 14:02 ET
Trade Center Design Process Reopens

NEW YORK (AP) — Following widespread criticism of the preliminary proposals for redeveloping of the World Trade Center site, architects from around the world were invited on Wednesday to submit new designs.

``We are looking for excitement, creativity, energy,'' said Roland Betts, a board member of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., the city-state agency in charge of redeveloping the site.

The planning stage was extended for up to three months, meaning a redevelopment plan won't be completed until early 2003.

The development corporation said it would choose up to five design teams by Sept. 30, and proposals will be narrowed to three by the end of the year. A final plan will be chosen two or three months after that, the officials said.

The development corporation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had originally said they would pick three plans by the end of September and narrow them down to one by the end of the year.

once again, the voice of reason. thank you for adding that piece of level-headed insight to what some may say, a sea of retarded sexuality here on tcpunk...

and evil angel, as far as people wanting to get near, etc.,people are buying up apartments in the financial ditrict/downtown because the city is giving huge rebates on realestate in that area.

and i hate to be the sourpuss again, but most of your posts on this thread are really pathetic.

nah, it needs a 24 hour super walmart with mcdonalds (with full time ronald mcdonald and crew). and if space permits, it also could use a used pickup truck and suv lot. that would show true american spirit! it covers all the bare essentials!

or they could erect another really large phallic emblem, and fortify it with more support as to not go flaccid like last time...
