Are you sure it wasn't Spring Lake Park? I was friends with Tony Hecker (sp?) who was in a group of skaters in the northern burbs. SLP is just one city away from Blaine and I know they had a big ramp. Scott and Steve were a couple of the other guys in that group. They ended up working at/running Cal Surf I think (the shop on Lake by Calhoun) Was it those guys? Tony IP: Logged |

Sweet, I am glad to know I am not alone. At Brian Oake's birthday party last weekend Brian, Mark Wheat and I were talking about good sets that the radio K djs have done. Some kid played "Stop" or some song off that record in the midst of a similarly cool set. Mark said he is this hyper-old-school 20 year old. kinda cool. Tony

I'm pretty sure it was Blaine, probably in late '85. I'm not sure if it was skaters or bikers who had the ramp.IP: Logged |

You're right, it was Tony and Scott. I'm not sure if I ever met Steve. I thought it was in Blaine, but I'm not from that area, so it all blends together for me. Damn! I thought I was on to something there. IP: Logged |

If we had that close of contact, maybe we did have a run-in.Where were you from back then? Did you go to college in town? What the heck is your name? or is it secret? Did you know dangermouse back then? Our six degrees of kevin bacon is only two steps at this point, can we make it one? Tony IP: Logged |

Steef - I didn't hang with skaters back then, I was a theatre fag and ski team boy. Can't think of who it might have been.A couple of the guys I raced with on the ski-team had a quarter pipe with the launch point being their parent's roof. Could it be them? IP: Logged |

Straight Face!!! Hey Dave how ya doin' I'm an old room-mate of yours from Duluth...I was thinking about starting a Straight Face thread at some point but wasn't sure if it fit exactly, though you guys did indeed move to Minneapolis...did you guys ever record at Mirror Image? You may have also noticed that I mentioned the Rox somewhere I think, Duluth's first attempt at a punk band that I believe you were involved in...I remember someone special-ordering a Chelsea album at Budget recs. in Duluth when I was ordering imports for 'em and I believe it was you! Weren't many "punks" up there at the time so it was "noteworthy".Surely Bill and Charlie have Straight Face tapes? I've been thinking those might sound oddly interesting about now, sure would take me back! Welcome!IP: Logged |

Assidbath: Didn't ever really hang out with anyone in that crowd other than Tony and Scott. Skated their ramp a couple of times and they were really nice guys to let us do so. We had a ramp in St. Paul that was almost identical, although ours was 12' wide and their's was 16'. I think their ramp had 10' of flat while ours had 12'. I don't think they ever made it over to skate our ramp, but we went up a couple times with some of the guys from Alternative. * Edited to say that I'm sorry to get this off track from Twin Cities bands. Back to the subject at hand... the aforementioned Boy Elroy. Anyone have a copy of the LP for a friend of mine in NYC? Hey, I actually tried the cheeseburger only diet. It worked great I lost 10 Lbs. in one week of eating White Castle cheeseburgers. It was a stupid bet with my friends..... I think it works well because all you do is shit alot, it sure aint a fun or tasty diet but it does the trick.IP: Logged |
