Just listening to one of their records could tip you off. But satan girl, I saw them many times, from their early days as a four-piece until the end of their career, and it was fun watching it all happen. Plus, Lori Barbero's the Greatest! Anybody remember who all was in the original line-up?IP: Logged |

I've always enjoyed the live aspect of a good show and the Babes were always intense. The last time I saw them was in the early 1990s at a free show in Loring Park.I had been travelling Mainland China for ~3 months and they played the day after I arrived back in Mpls. Driving to the show I was still in a culture shock state since the city was like a ghost-town in comparison to where I had been. Luckily I snagged a decent spot on the side of the stage, chatted w/Lori a bit and no one minded if I videoed the event. The whole episode was cathartic and a great way to return to the reality I grew up with. Thanks Babes.IP: Logged |

Sure, Cindy was the signer (dont know her real last name only that some people called her Psyco Cindy) The lovely Michell Leon on bass, Kat Bjeland, Ravishing. and of course Lori Barbaro, one of greatest people I have ever known. Damn, am I proud of them. Smitten too. [This message has been edited by Jzzz (edited 07-03-2000).] IP: Logged |

Yes ... Lori is one of the nicest TC band people I have ever known .. always willing to stop and talk wit cha ... never any head trips there ... just a genuinely nice person and I like her musical forays as well ... I remember the first time she played, it was a fun night! I seem to run into her everytime I return to the TC for a visit and in the oddest places ... in fact when I return in October I'll be lookin' for her to catch up on the local poop. NOW, on the topic of Babes in Toyland ... when I was channel surfing I happened to catch a VH-1 Courtney Love bio and it mentioned her and a very vague inference to Babes in Toyland ... did I miss something here ... or how involved was the Love monster involved with the band anyway ?????IP: Logged |

I don't know Cindy's history too well, but most of us called her psycho Cindy. She used to dance to the in-between band DJ music at first avenue. She'd dance to pretty much any band that played. She'd flail her arms about and twirl and spin, like a drunken top. Anyone who would get in her way would be slapped, and slammed, and violated by this unique dancer.IP: Logged |

Saw "Psycho"Cindy today, she had heard about this thread and wanted to post to y'all, but she couldn't find it. I told her where it is so she may be postin' here soon. Anyways she is doing well and is now singing in a band called the "Now Explosion". It is a very cool band. They do a lot of 60's covers and some others. They will be playin' in the 7th St. Entry on Friday, Oct. 6. Cindy is one of two women who sing in this band, and they have recently added another woman as Go-Go Dancer. Check it out they are a fun band!------------------ I GOTTA FIND MYSELF SOME LOVE iGOTTA FInD MYSELF SOME DRUGS I GOTTA FIND SOME LIQUID SUNSHINE iGOTTA FIND MYSELF, I GOTTA FIND MYSELF I'M A SICK MOTHERFUCKER I'M A SWEET SUCKA MUTHA AIN'T NO one TOUGHER IN A WRECK, I'M A SLEAZE I'M A ROCK N ROLL DISEASE

hey you all. heard about this website and was looking around. pretty cool. its been so long since it all went down, and i don't really like to rehash all the ancient history but anyhow babes started out with Kris Holetz and i hanging out. must have been 1983? can't even remember and we were talking about how there wasnt any cool all girl bands around. the scene was ruled by men. i said i wrote lyrics and she said she could learn bass and so an idea was born. we ran into Kat in the entry and asked her if she wanted to jam and she said yes,so we jammed at my house. then we needed a drummer and we heard that Lori had a drum kit and before you know it we were practicing in her basement. end of story.and to all you people that i might of smashed into at shows you were always pretty cool letting me do my thing. when i moved to this town i had lived in san fran for awhile and seattle and i had gone to a few shows dead kennedys and personality crisis and i got the shit beat out of me by different punk rock guys so when i moved here and started going to shows i couldnt believe how tolerant most everyone was about my dancing. this isn't a love letter or anything, but i do love this town and i had a lot of fun in the old days.IP: Logged |

Originally (in 86 or 87), Cindy on vox, Kris Hoeltz on bass, Kat on guitar, and Lori on drums. I'll never forget Lori telling me that her new band was playing their first show, and that I should come see them, they were heavy metal and I'd like them. After that, came the famous line-ups. But who's Dana? I never heard of her being in the band. Anyone got the scoop on their upcoming show at First Ave. Is this a one-off reunion?[This message has been edited by PassedOut (edited 10-05-2000).] IP: Logged |

PassedOut, Babes are playing an early evening show Sat. 25 Nov. 2000, with Melt Banana opening. Doors at 5:30, and tickets are $8 advance, $10 door. Don't quote me on this, but Lori made it sound as if they are doing a bit of touring. I thought she said something about going to Europe, but it is very possible that I am confused.IP: Logged |
