That was good! Still can feel the place on my jaw where I got a good hard elbow jab from some guy a couple feet taller than me who was trying to create somekind of whirling vortex in the middle of the maelstrom. He didn't have to try THAT hard! But was a damn fun show! Yup, we need more Dead Kennedy's!IP: Logged |

I remember after that show going to some old church where some bands (Huskers? Can't remember, can someone help me out?) lived to interview the DK's for my radio show. I can still remember Jello and East Bay Ray sitting around and debating if anarchy was more like grapes or lettuce.... well it's a long story. Some day I'm gonna dig out all those old interview tapes and listen to em again!IP: Logged |

One of the top ten best show's I've seen all time. Sat three rows deep on the stage next to Klaus. Towards the end of the show was on top of a triple pity back that went in to the pit. There was a picture of it I think in maximun rock n roll. Ground Zero, Man Sized Action, Huskers, and Kennedy's what night.

I probably sat right next to you. I was on Klaus' side too...I couldn't believe what the crowd looked like from that vantage point. That was the first huge hardcore show ever in Minnie, I think.

I read somewhere about a DK armory show. The story goes that a cub scout leader happened to bring his troup to the armory for a tour of the place. By coincidence, DKs happened to be playing at the same time. I can only imagine the looks on their little faces.IP: Logged |

Reunited again! I think you're right about the pic being in Max RnR. As for trying it again...my guess is, you've grown a bit and both Yuck and myself have back problems. Glad to see you on the board!IP: Logged |

Hey RC I haven't grown or put on much weight since I was 13/14 years old in that picture. But I don't think they would catch us like they used to at punk shows Garage Woman say hi to Trish for me. The cooligan man daughter remember when she used to do some voice overs for the commercials? IP: Logged |

I,too, was at this awesome show-although I could never get up front enough to get a decent view(so many moshers, all guys,I hadn't the physical strength!), I was elated to be there-except when that poor guy dove and DIDN"T get caught! Man! Do ya remember how pissed Jello was? How he threatened to cancel the rest of the show? I recall nearly being de-capitated myself when a flying full-grown man-child landed on my head when I wasn't looking...thanks to a pretty new and still-stiff dog collar,my head was halted from snapping right off! I met someone special that night whose influence in my life hasn't been equalled to this day.

think I just found the answer if this history of The Whole can be trusted it says: Also building momentum in the Twin Cities was another genre of music called “hardcore punk.” The Whole, always tuned in to the musical cutting edge, started hosting punk shows, once again captivating audiences of all ages. The hardcore phase peaked in late 1983 when the Whole brought “The Dead Kennedys,” “Husker Du,” and “Man-Sized Action” to the Great Hall of Coffman Memorial Union. The City Pages, a local alternative publication, called the event, “the largest scale hardcore event in the state’s history.” However, by the mid-1980’s, hosting these popular hardcore shows became dangerous. In 1986 the Whole Music Club was shut down, citing to injury to a patron. IP: Logged |

The Coffman Union show resulted in a lawsuit that the university paid for. DANIEL DUFFEY? broke his damn ankle and tried to sue One Step Further, since the company had no insurance the U paid. That along with the Todd Crawford broken back ended shows at the U. Yes the armory sucked but it was fun, you can blame Dale T Nelson for allowing me to rent the fucking place, He said it would be great and He really wanted to play there since he had seen so many great shows there in the 60's and 70's. Forgive for indulging an old guys fantasy. Jello upon entering the armory moans oh god, it's a fucking barn. IP: Logged |
