MNs most mysterious band. They aspired many local bands to a new artistic level. I have a rare vid clip I will try to offer.IP: Logged |

Didn't they host a show on KFAI in the early 90's? Or they were frequent guests on someone elses show on said station...IP: Logged |

Wasn't it them who did the Alpo Commercial on Dr. Sphincter's public access show? I think they were dressed up as Tibetan monks or something... IP: Logged |

I'm pretty sure these guys opened for the wacky Lisa Suckdog at 7th St. They were throwing finger cots (tiny little rubbers) into the crowd, "these are too small for us, but you can use them". Many were throwing icecubes into their inverted cone hats and at the band in general. A bouncer soon addressed the ice tossing mob with something like "hey guys, don't throw the ice quite that hard". Ice and drinks continued to fly, it must not have been much fun to play in that environment.I loved it when they opened one show saying "Hello Minneapolis, we love your giant car race". Ya gotta love those crazy "Belgians". IP: Logged |

It was a very good bit, that's for sure. Another good "novelty" (for lack of a better word) from the day was the Reverend Pokey Bunge. Wonder what's new from the Reverend's corner?Saw a local band a couple of weeks ago, called CAL something's AMISH ARMADA. Band with masks and costumes, portraying undead Amish forefathers, looking for revenge on the British. That was a pretty funny bit too! IP: Logged |

I recently talked to one of the clowns, (was it Zingo or Bloppo)? and there is a website in the works. I played with Dr. Sphincter and the Hunger a few times, and I think we did a show together. Once they went to the Renaissance festival in wheelchairs, handing out deformed candy canes. Brilliant.IP: Logged |

Yes! It was my radio show (Rock of Rages) that had the Slime Clowns on! I had em on at least twice and maybe 3 or 4 times. I have tapes of those shows somewhere! Great fun. I was the roomate of a guy who was "very good friends" with one of the Slime CLowns (wink wink nudge nudge!) for a year so I was quite up on their activities. They did indeed open for Lisa Suckdog in the Entry. What a show! First Sun Ra played early evening in the mainroom and then over to the Entry to see Slime Clowns and Lisa (who performed nude on roller skates) I also played drums for a Slime Clowns performance once (even though I am not a drummer) They were playing a cameo in the mainroom as part of First Ave's 20th Anniversary Celebrations in 1990 I think. Other cameos that night were The Replacements, the Warheads and others! Not a shabby bunch to share a stage with! Anyway, They had the local metal band Powermad backing them for this but the drummer could not make it so I was asked to sit in (it didn't matter if I could not play they said) It was cool! Playing the First Ave mainstage with the Slime Clowns and Powermad (and as we all like to say "we opened for the Replacements!") I think there is a video somewhere of this. I may even have it somewhere. I wish these dudes would do some stuff again! [This message has been edited by sonicfreak (edited 10-04-2000).] By the way. How do I edit smilies? This shoulda been a happy one but instead I got the purple frown guy and can't chage it. No big deal. [This message has been edited by sonicfreak (edited 10-04-2000).] IP: Logged |

WOW the slime clown, sadly i have a fairly big slime clown archive including a two hour "documentry" of them sneaking into the Grand Old Days parade. they were obnoxious though there idenity was never offically known, they were artists from the Rifle Sport Gallery ,where they did they're early performances. they actually started as a sort of Joy Division type band...Little Egypt ..I think? I rember the suckdog show, Ugggh the only thing that made it tolarble was them. IP: Logged |

Well, Bozo, that was over a year ago. I don't know, I had no part in it, zingo or bloppo, can't get my clowns straight, told me about it. By the way, the said clown was doing web design himself, floppy shoes and all so I assumed he wasn't clowning around.IP: Logged |

Reno,Granted the City Pages had dubbed Lisa Suck Dog an exhibitionist and less an "artist" (in their Alist section), but running around naked (with her male counterpart) shouting musings and profanity full boar about McDonalds whilst strange Moog music play in the background might not constitute art. But the Slime Clowns were 'absolutely fabulous'. It used to be they'd make an annual appearance at the Renaissance Festival and maybe hit one of the MTN shows. Any video of this stuff...and I'd love to have it ($). I distinctly remember standing up front at the Entry and having a pool cue (with some kind of hotdog on the tip) going in & out of a fur ring. They were poking it at members of the audience and shreiking in those Mr. Bill voices. Hysterical! My review of the initial reaction: Lisa Suckdog, Slime Clowns, & Eyeball Bird - 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis MN ’90 {maybe I shouldn’t have dosed before going to this one, Lisa takes it all off on stage & the Slime Clowns are not for children’s parties...couldn’t stop laughing}. Harassed by Minneapolis cops for jaywalking Hennepin after bar.

A friend gave me a third generation tape of the Slime Clowns doing fundraising on the air for KFAI. They were playing around with sound effects, threatening to kill a bunch of cute and fuzzy kittens if no one called in to pledge more money. The Grand Old Days performace was a hoot! I remember seeing them in the parade and wondering what the average citizen must be thinking. IP: Logged |

Yea and I might have been right there too!!! I love me the Slime Clowns! Zingo and Bloppo. What great guys. Always willing to cook you Belgian waffles.
What the world really needs now is a Slime Clowns DVD! Slime Clowns performances in 5.1 Surround Sound!! Now that would be something!

i know they have a ton of stuff on video. they just need to be gently encouraged to slap it all together on a tape/dvd and make it available to the general public.

I worked on a scooter for Mann Hawkes this summer.. It sounded to me like a Slime Cowns reunion might not be too far fetched. Did anyone see the infamous performance at Wormstock 1( a fundraiser for Wormblower magazine) I heard the Slime Clowns got some frat boy so mad that he took out a knife and cut their shadow tent down thus ending their grossly obcene performance.IP: Logged |

yes indeed. i saw that performance and it was funny as shit. i don't know if the enraged frat boy was part of the act or not. after all these years both clowns swear to me that he wasn't. quite a night. i'll forever hope that they'll do a reunion, but if only because one of them now resides in florida, i won't hold my breath.
