Hey! Anyone going to the El Vez X-Mas (or should I say Mex-Mas) show on the 15th?? I went a couple years ago and it was great fun! I even got an autographed polaroid of me sitting on his lap! He was dressed in a santa outfit! At the end of the show he did a punk rock version of I wanna be your dog but sang "Now I wanna be Santa Claus" Very cool!

El Vez is always a good time. The last time I saw him was his Travelin' Salvation Show or something like that. The last song was "Lust For Life" but he changed it to "Love For Christ". Oh those whacky Lopez'!

I had a great time! And once again I got my photo taken with El Vez dressed in a Santa suit!! Hmmm... I would love to post it but would a digital of a polaroid come out? I could try it. Anyway, always a great time! I also picked up a few El Vez CD's that I didn't have including the latest "Boxing With God"

recently caught El Vez's "Quincenera Show" (15th anniversary) at the California Plaza downtown LA - ten of the previous Elvettes joined him on stage for the big extravaganza. a little Elz Vez Trivia: while signing the "Merry MeX-Mas" CD for me, he pointed out that all the photos are of his actual family and the little boy on Santa's lap is El Vez himself

If tomorrow is your first El Vez show,you have my eternal envy, cuz there's just nothing like seeing El Vez for the first time. If you don't smile through the entire show you have a serious problem. Well, okay. Most of the show. When I found out I had cancer again last year, it took El Vez to get me out of the dumps.Really, I can't say enough good things about the guy. Which is why you should GO SEE HIM!! And as far as pre-show drinks, may I suggest O'Donovan's? It's right across the street from First Ave, they're hardly ever crowded aand they pour a mean Guinness.

Remember he is not doing a Xmas (or Mex Mas!) show next year! Not until at least 2004 (although he may do other shows which are fun as well). So this is your chance!!! I think his Xmas shows are the best! Bring lots of $ for El Vez souveniers!

And the question of the day for those with unstamped comps is.....

How early to get there to make sure to get in? I have never been refused admission with a comp but I have been hearing stories of shows where they cut off comps after 100 or whatever. I think I might skip the pre-party to make sure, plus I gotta sign up for the picture again!

There were about 8 bars of one of my favorite songs by WAR, prob. during his low rider segment, duh, which I can't recall right now because I'm listening to music.

Two of my favorite moments of the evening:

"In the El Barrio"...each Elvette nestling a blanketed bundle in her arms & whipping off the cover to reveal a helium balloon/baby!

the cool backlit giant US flag across the front of the stage emblazoned "NO WAR"!

Wonderful show as always. Yeah, I love the way that little bits and pieces of Hendrix or the Beach Boys or Oasis or whatever just seem to effortlessly drop in and out of the songs. And those El Vettes!!!! Va Va Voom! I also like how they did an encore, said goodnight, the houselights came up and after 5 or 10 minutes they came back out, after a night of fancy costumes, just wearing jeans and T-shirts and rocked out three more songs! Fun night to be sure! I'm sad there will be no Mex Mas show next year but hopefully he will come throgh with a different show.
