So, I got this web radio service at work and the classic punk channel plays alot of Naked Raygun. I like it. Didn't one of these cats start Pegboy? Pegboy sounded more like Kraut to me though.

Naked Raygun put out some really great stuff. If you into CDs you are in luck because all of it has recently been re issued with a lot of bonus material. The essential stuff is of course the earliest. Flammable solids 7", very rare, sells for around 100 bucks but has been bootlegged in the last few years Basement Screams 12" ep also very rare, sells for 50$ or so, really critical though a template of melodic hardcore style often imatitated and never equalled. Throb Throb-A total masterpiece. One of the best melodic HC records, fairly common sells for 5-20 bucks. All Rise-I don't think this one is very good, but it has a few good tracks. Jason actually picked this one up for me last week for six bucks. Jason would be more qualified to sing this LP's praises. I can't get into it like the earlier stuff. I think there were some other LPs and 7"s after this point but really they followed the Effigies and other Chicago bands into boring rock/alternative territory. Some people might like it, but after they closed the book on hardcore it lost it for me. We stock all those CDs at Extreme Noise most all the time. I can't recommend the early stuff enough. One of the few punk bands to utilize a saxaphone and have it sound cool. IP: Logged |

First show by a major punk band I ever saw -- Naked Raygun at the Whole. A few years later, seeing them at the entry, me + a girl I didn't know called for an encore by howling the opening vocal melody of I Lie. I had the feeling most people hadn't heard it since the record was out of print. Run, don't walk to get the reissues of Basement Screams and Throb Throb.IP: Logged |

after the all rise lp you got jettison,understand,raygun...naked raygun, and a couple different misc. live records. like felix said, start with throb throb and all rise and go from there-I have all the vinyl, but those cd reissues look sweet with all that bonus stuff. by the way, we just played with pegboy in chicago and the rocked the house and were also very cool and down to earth.p.s.,all fans of naked raygun should really check out the arrivals-they rock hard. Naked Raygun is one of my favorite bands ever. Santiago Durango was the original guitarist in Naked Raygun, he went on to Big Black, and frontman Jeff Pezzatti actually was the bass player for Big Black as well for a bit. Pierre Kezdy was in the amazing Strike Under along with now locals Steve and Chris Bjorklund, both great musicians in their own right. Chris did a stint in the Effigies as well, another great Chicago punk band, fronted by John Kezdy. We used to do shows in Chicago with Man Sized Action and Naked Raygun, and they'd play here, staying at each other's punk rock pads, loads of fun. John Haggerty is a punk rock guitar god, man I like to hear him play. I caught The Bomb in the Entry last year, Pezzati is playing bass as well as singing, they're a bit poppy in a mod-ish sorta way, even doing a Jam cover. I liked them. The Haggerty brothers are also plumbers as well as great guys.IP: Logged |

Ahoy zomzomzomzomzom........ Chris B.here. Thanks for the kind words above. Indeed, those were great days. I feel compelled however to mention the awkward fact that I seem to recall your borrowing my copy of 'Basement Screams' on one of Rifle Sport's Chicago trips, circa Spring 1985. If you've not sold it to support your guitar string habit, I feel it's return would be appropriate. I'm planning an American punk bootleg blitz on eBay and need my original copy for reference. Reply to the usual address. [This message has been edited by jack orion (edited 04-27-2002).] IP: Logged |

Speaking of Bloodsport and boxing, there is currently a Bloodsport LP at Extreme Noise in the used bin if anyone is interested. The one with boxers on the cover... "Become The Game", perhaps? Don't quote me on that. Don't know much about them, but saw them when they played with Outcry (and Suicidal Tendencies didn't show up). I thought they were pretty good. I'll have to dig out their record and check it again. IP: Logged |

I wholeheartedly endorse the 3rd and 4th Naked Raygun LP's , "Jettison" and "Understand". I believe they came out in 86-88. Both have that big big Raygun guitar zoom and amazing singing. The songs are actually pretty damn fast at this point also, in fact there is stuff on both LP's that is right up there with Throb Throb or All Rise. The 5th and last LP, with a different guitarist, RAYGUN, is kinda a let down, still has a few good songs though. The live record, FREE SHIT, of the 1997 reunion show is pretty great. I love Naked Raygun.

JEEZUS...Where to begin. Embarassing to admit how much some of their lyrics made sense, like "Libido" and "No sex", corny yet saying something that didn't get talked about much, the overly stylish fan-boy's inabilty to "perform" in the sexual arena and the stifling lack of ambition to really ever do so...If you're beautiful, it's like, you're having sex all the time...With your SELF. It's all about partying and the expectation to do it well...let's just admit, after too much speed and alcohol, sex is a burdensome, dull proposition...why not rock instead? Naked Raygun understood this, and THIS is their legacy...WHA-OH, WHA-O,-O (PS I Loved them, sorta still do)IP: Logged |

The "Chicago Sound" CD has two live shows on it, one from Milwaukee in 1989 and another at WUST in DC in 1985. Sound quality of each is pretty good.IP: Logged |
