Curtiss A...without knowing it, he became one of my punk gurus. Comic City was in my neighborhood at the time and for a young punk back then ('79-80), it happened to be a hip place to hang out at. Curt got a job there (not sure when) and quickly became a crowd favorite there. We struck up a friendship with music, art and politics as a base of discussion. He'd bring in tapes to play and give and let me scour the shelves. We jonzed on the video games for free and I had my pick of the alterative comics when they came in. He mentioned something once about turning C.C. into a music-only establishment, replacing most of the space with vinyl and tapes (this was the pre-cd era in music). Too bad that never happened. I had a good talk with Curt a couple of years ago, asked him about his kid(s?), music, life in general. I left with a smile on my face, happy to have known him, if even for a brief time in life.IP: Logged |

When he worked at Shinder's on 7th and I worked at Northern Lights he used to sell me cigarettes for $.25 a pack and candy bars for a nickel. He was so sneaky.IP: Logged |

When I worked at the Entry, he would walk in while on break, with a lit joint in his mouth. He would always share, bless his heart.IP: Logged |

He's a person that should be in an institution.he used to do this vampire "trick" on me every time he saw me until i figured out what he was doing. he'd grab my arm and sort of bite my wrist until blood would show up. it wasn't like a hickey, and it always cracked me up. then i realized it was just his bleeding gums and i put a stop to it immediately. Where is Curt these days anyway? He'd call me every once in a while and I'd have some very drawn out and strange conversations with him. But then when I'd see him in person, we'd often not say anything to each other at all. Hard to explain it. Then he'd call me up the next day and talk again for a long time. Always liked Curtiss.IP: Logged |

Here's part of your answer: From the StarTribune's Freetime ItemWorld: Friday, October 6, 2000 ORSON KANGAROO You might recognize the voice singing "Love Is in the Air" on the new TV commercial for the Toyota Camry. It's the Twin Cities' own Curtiss A. Minneapolis producer Bob Hest said he uses Curt for jingles when he needs someone to do a character voice. "He watches more TV than anyone," Hest said of the veteran rocker. "If I say, 'I want 4 percent Orson Welles and 72 percent Captain Kangaroo -- the early years,' Curt can do it." (J.B.) Checkout Monday December 4th Poineer Press for an interview with Curtiss A and Yoko Ono. He spoke with Yoko about his yearly Lennon Tribute and about preparing for the interview. If you didn't see the paper here is the link. http://www.pioneerplanet.com/cgi-bin/justgolink.pl?nav=music&src=music%2F1204curtisalennon.htm IP: Logged |

Was just in Minne-snowda about a week ago and ran into the Curt-Meister downtown ... told me he had just finished the aforementioned interview right before I ran into him, he said Yoko was very nice ... he said the Lennon show this year should be really good ... wish I could be back up that way for the show :-( ... but I will see if I can email a Jpeg photo of a picture I took of him that afternoon ... I caught the very begining of the John Lennon tribute last night but had to leave real early to get somewhere elser. Anyway it was fun to see a bit of it and they were selling CD's of last years show as well as an Elvis tribute show he did a few years back. I got both of em. There was a 3rd CD too that you could get if you bought the other two. They didn't have em out yet when I left but someone was gonna get mine for me. I don't know yet whats on that third CD. Anyway, seems Curt has been on a CD burning frenzy or something! Maybe the third CD is the conversation with Yoko? Nah!IP: Logged |

For everyone's amusement, here's the cover of the CD of Curt's interview with Yoko. It was his idea and my execution. (I don't have any personal knowledge about how accurately his physical attributes are depicted!) And no, sonicfreak, Yoko definitely did NOT approve!!

If Curt owes you money, vishnu, you should go after him for it -- he's not too likely to call you out of the blue and offer to pay you but if you remind him of the debt, I'd like to believe that he would come up with the money eventually... although of course, I can't speak for him. (But I can help you get in touch with him -- email me if you need his phone number.) As far as hitting on your girlfriend goes, well... that's Curt for ya! If the relationship is strong, it shouldn't matter. IP: Logged |

I saw him last night at the Weisman art opening thing for the Springsteen/car exhibit. Absolutely wonderful. I had this whole review of the show going on in my head, but you know, I am intimidated by all the excellent critics here, so I just can't. but it was a good show. well, and then there was as much free Summit as I could drink and getting high in an art gallery, that was cool too. anyway, I believe that twin cities punk roots are firmly based, at least in part, with Curt. (ok ok Suicide Commandos too.....)IP: Logged |

I thought I saw you all across the room! It was a fun evening, indeed! My pal who spent a lot of time at the Longhorn in days gone by & curated the Springsteen photo exhibit got to spend a late summer afternoon with Curt, hearing about his abduction by aliens while they cruised to Stillwater listening to Bruce bootlegs & soundboard checks. She was really excited he agreed to do the gig...& he played extra long too! IP: Logged |

I know that not everyone on TCPunk is a Beatles fan, but Curt's 22nd Annual John Lennon Tribute is coming up this Sunday, December 8, at First Ave. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Like last year, I'm sure they'll be playing some George Harrison songs too. I haven't been to every Lennon show but I've been to a lot of 'em, and every time I go I'm amazed at how good it is. It truly is an excellent show, so if you've never been to one and you like the music at all, you should really consider going. It's also a good way to catch up with old friends, because the place is packed every year! As an added inducement, this year you'll be able to see me make a complete ass of myself during "I Am The Walrus!" That alone should be worth the price of admission! IP: Logged |

So how many different beverages did Curt have going last night? He had a botled water, then it was bottles of Summit extra pale ale, a huge bottle of Gatorade, A can of Coke and second set it looked like a mixed drink of some sort. Oh yea and the music was good too!! Four hours (by the time I left) of Curt doing John with what? 12 or so people on stage! Three drummers! Gholian getting his SHakspeare on! Drank too much crappy beer but here I am at work actually functioning on some level today. Hung out with Molly and Lance. Good times!IP: Logged |

A great time, indeed! Curt's imbibing certainly had variety, I agree...it's always amazing to me how wonderfully he & the others pull it off year after year but it's never stale. I'm also heartened by the wide range of ages there...old(er) geezers to 20-somethings, all singing along. IP: Logged |
