In the late '40s and early '50s, they both worked as professional wrestlers. That's what you wanted to hear, right? But before that, my mom was a dancer, who performed in the USO shows. After his wrestling career, he became a cop, eventually working as a vice squad detective. Mom was a "traditional homemaker", as was the style of the day.IP: Logged |

Mom died two years ago, day after Easter. Dad's still doing fine up in Quebec. He can't walk much anymore though, and my mom had both hips replaced, one of them twice, as a result of their youthful endeavors.IP: Logged |

Yeah, I was always a "momma's boy" . I got to meet all those old wrestlers, they all knew each other. I saw my dad on TV when I was real young, that was cool. I didn't really follow it though, I was never pressured to be a wrestling or any kind of sports fan. They used to have "characters" back then, but it was much more "real". I've met the Crusher, the Bruiser, my dad grew up with Mad Dog, did tag team with Vern Gagne. I started watching it a bit more when I moved here, lots of wrestling fans in the punk scene here in the early '80s. My parents having been wrestlers really gave me an "in" with the scene.......(sarcasm, sorta).....IP: Logged |

Punk Rock. In '78, I got into punk rock while attending the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. We used to take road trips to the Longhorn, and this town had a good scene going. Flour and I had a band, and we decided to move here to start another one. I have to say, that everyone I met here was super nice to us, all the Husker Du, Suburbs and whatever guys. Lots of support, so I stayed.IP: Logged |

Yeah, I loved it the minute I walked in. I could wear my punk/new wave clothes and not hear any stupid remarks, they had good music playing, no hippies, and cool bands. Fucking kids these days, they've got it so good, we used to have to drive 90 miles in a snowstorm to see a decent band. And we only had rear-wheel drive cars back then. IP: Logged |

Ha, I've been in bands since 1975. The first was called "Orpheus", and I played bass. We played around Spooner and Shell Lake, doing R&B standards, Chicago, country, etc. Flour and I had met through and ad in the dorms. Originally, we were set on playing stuff like Aerosmith and Hard Rock, but then I heard "Never Mind the Bollocks", and decided to play punk rock. Our first band was The Publick, and we did mostly covers of Ramones, Adverts, Damned, etc. This was in '78. As you can imagine, we weren't very popular. IP: Logged |

We played at the Longhorn when the name had just changed to Zoogies. It was a gay bar, but they still had bands playing upstairs. We played a new band night with The Vendettas. I remember seeing the Suburbs, Flaming Ohs, The Dads, Stagger Lee and some others there. I'm sure I saw others, but my memory is kind of clouded today from the Vicodin I'm taking. And yes, I do have a prescription and I am in pain.IP: Logged |

My first job was at The Magic Pan on Nicollet mall. I think these were the end days of the '70s Crepe Craze. Awful job. I cooked for many years after that, including stints at The Brothers' Deli, The Loon Cafe, Pam Sherman's and Giorgio's. I worked at First Avenue from '84 to '88, mostly doing sound in The Entry, and also doing stage crew in the mainroom. That was a lot of fun.IP: Logged |

Rifle Sport was started by Flour and I , more or less. We moved here, and then started looking for a singer, and expected our drummer, Jimmy Petroski, to eventually move here as well. We held "auditions", and among the interested were Tom Hazelmyer, Taras Ostrousko and some insane guy. We knew CJ from the Vendettas, and when they broke up, we were still looking. He had bright purple hair, and was good on a stage, so we took him on as a singer. We first practiced with a drum machine. So, we formed in '81. Originally, the members were me, Flour, CJ, Karen Masanz, and Reggie, who's last name I really can't remember. Hazelmyer played drums with us for a while, but he was awful. We finally convinced Jimmy to move here and play in the band.IP: Logged |

We politely asked Karen to leave after a show in the Entry. Back then, the stage was where the bar is now, and vice-versa. You were also expected to play two sets. We're playing a good headlining weekend show, and Karen doesn't show up, so we played the first set without her (she played my Farfisa). Finally, she showed up extremely drunk and unable to play. She was banging her fists on the keyboard, and CJ shoved her away from it, and she passed out on the stage, if I remember correctly. Everyone said we sounded better without keys, so that was that. Jimmy and I both quit in '84, Rifle Sport continued with Todd Trainer and Joe White. After a year, they asked me if I would like to re-join, the new guitarist wasn't working out, he wore lots more makeup than I ever did, and not nearly as tasteful. I was doing nothing much with music, so I did. Jimmy went on to play in the Blu Hippos.IP: Logged |

Your Flesh was a really cool local punk zine, I even drew a comic for it in one of the early issues. It covered stuff here and from other scenes quite well. It was cool to read about the local stuff, and fun to see your name and picture in it. I lost interest in it sometime during the late 80s.IP: Logged |

First time I saw Husker Du was in the Entry, and they knocked me out, so to speak. I had never heard anyone play that fast. Besides being an extremely cool band, they were really nice guys who helped out many other bands. Bob and Grant started Reflex records, who put out the first Rifle Sport album.IP: Logged |
