And now, ladies and Gentlemen, the citadel of Dilsberg am Neckar. I lived in the old Rathaus in the center of town. [This message has been edited by Chelsea40ozBondage (edited 06-06-2002).] IP: Logged |

No way, König von Narren! I so miss Germany. What are you doing there? I went to Heidelberg American Elementary school for 5th grade, and all I did was draw, with my teacher's blessing. The curriculum was WAY too easy. Then instead of the lame-o Middle school, I tried St. Rafael's Gymnasium. My mom pulled me out cos the teacher, Frau Mosbach, was an ogre who had it in for me. I was promptly kicked out of Germany for the first time, for a period of 8 months. My dad was a teacher at said Middle School, where I attended upon my return. At least in theory. But I was bored, turned to New Wave and starter Punk, and acquainted myself with the fine art of skipping school. The school gave me a double promotion so I entered HAHS at 12. My Mom couldn't find teaching other than subbing so she had got a job on the adjacent army base (NATO HQ), spearheading the T-POSH program-- Training and Prevention of Sexual Harrassment. I used to roam downtown Heidelberg for hours on end, totally unaccountable to anyone. Hauptstrasse. Window shopping. Airbrushed new wave postcards. Pommes Frittes in little Tüten with Mayo and tiny forks. Do kiss the dusty grounds for me! have a beer at the ruined arches on the Königstuhle. You should go to the Neckargemund Schwimmbad if you are indeed still within the annual occurance of 6 glorious weeks of summer. If not you will have to settle for the Schwetzigen indoor one. (Wasn't it Schwetzigen?) If you missed Koln's Bizarrefest on the 17th of last month, I will kill you. ------------------ C40 C40 C40 GO! IP: Logged |

Make the most of it Matt! It's a fun town. I am so homesick for the country I grew up in. My boyfriend and I may be visiting Germany sometime in the next 6 months or so, (depending when I start earning REAL income, enough to actually get ahead and put some away). He grew up between Koln, during the summers, and Detroit.I was completely disturbed by that report of the creep in Walldorf. We used to shop at the Comissary of course, which is where they say his accomplice worked. I thought of you, and the other people who are there now, and had total flashbacks to coldwar paranoia. Between the RAF, the militant religious wackos, and the anti-american sentiment, I guess the threat aimed at U.S. military personnel and their community did have some basis in reality. My Mom has told me stories only recently about security measures, which she did not inform us of at the time so as not to scare us, but I would have shrugged it off anyway then. I'll say!! 23 Rhinestrasse was one of our Heidelberg homes. It's been almost 20 years since I've been back, time to go!!! IP: Logged |
