Chicago Wax Trax was always fun, great store/label. Anybody have any good stories? Anybody have that first Wax Trax release? IP: Logged |

Do you mean Strike Under? Two of the geniuses responsible for that post-punk masterpiece are around here somewheres.... I first went there in '79, and bought myself a handful of badges. I felt so punk. Quite exciting to make those trips to Chicago back then, going to Tut's, eating real Mexican food at Campeche.. good times, good times. First pair of Doc Martens and Creepers I ever had came from Wax Trax. IP: Logged |

Great place. My roommate still has a gift certificate from Wax Trax that she never got around to using.IP: Logged |

There's a font called Wax Trax, you know. I always get a little charge out of that whilst looking thru the assy font list here at work.IP: Logged |

I went in search of the old office the last time I was in Chi-town. I managed to snap a few pictures of the building, which now houses a yuppie baby store. If I knew how to and had the equipment, I'd post the photos here. I bought tons of later Wax Trax stuff in my baby-goth phase, but never made it before the place closed down (I have a stack of postcards somewhere, though). Sometimes I really hate that I was born just a bit too late to play an active role in all of this stuff. IP: Logged |

I went to school a couple blocks from WaxTrax and we were in there every day. It was like our command post or something... You went there to pick up fliers to see what was going on, flip thru the new records and 7"s, pick up fanzines, meet your friends there. When you were broke you could sell your records there and they would pay you really well for good stuff. That place was the best.
