I drove by it this morning and it looks like they're tearing it down. A lot of bands use to play there in the early 90's. Did any of you ever play there when you were starting out? I think they left anyone play. That's also the place where they found Bob Stinson isn't it?

I made it a point to NEVER play Fernandos, although I saw a few of my friend's bands play there.

Led Zepplin could have had a reunion with a zombie Bonham and 4 people would show up.

I was gonna book GG Allin there but he went ot prison before we could get it together.

going to see a friend's band play there was always an interesting experience.
it didn't matter how many different taps they had, they only had one beer available.
and then, on the shelf, they would have all these empty bottles of liquor and maybe one 1/2 full Southern Comfort...
and was it true that it was the Native American gay bar?

The first gig I ever had was on October 23, 1994 at Fernando's. I played there maybe about 6 times. They never paid you or gave you any beer(cardinal sin, no free beer). It was a good space to help get over that initial stage fright phase.

I think it was a gay Republican Mormon Inuit bar.

Fernandos was on Lake St. at 15th ave on the SE corner. Across from Avalon theatre, kitty corner from Kaplan Bros. It's been vacant for many years as the owner was forced out of business and had trouble with the IRS. The mexican restaurant next door Me Gusta is very successful and plans to expand and build a bigger parking lot and more space for their bar and also I think some offices on the second floor and such.

Thank goodness a bunch of us were there cooling off with a few pitchers between sets as the Bombshelter riots broke out. Nothing good would have come of our additional presence.
