Two catagories? I guess I see the differenceWarriors (of course) Orphanes, Albert Finney and Mathew Broderik? Night of the Hunter, Robert Mitchem That documentary that came out about the isle of whight hippie festival that went all bad, it showed the hippies letting themselves in for free, the promoter as an insensitive idiot, the bands as greedy and Jimi Hendrix fucked up and playing rather poorly. Have you seen the PBS documentary about wanna-be gangsters in Appleton Wisc.? [This message has been edited by Jzzz (edited 08-01-2000).] IP: Logged |

The evil Punk Rock Quincy and the Chips where Erik Estrada busts the evil Punkers and then jumps onstage and performs "Macho Man" before a crowd of dancing extras. Everybody showed up for those casting calls, all the way from San Diego to Las Vegas. Erik Estrada difinitely did save the world from the evils of punk rock. He really is a macho man.IP: Logged |

As I recall, Erik Estrada saved the punks by singing "Celebration" in a gold lame jump suit. It has been a while though... IP: Logged |

This is probably gonna come in more than one spurt, but here goes - mind you, I'm taking liberties with what constitutes "punk" (natch - like I do all the time, anyway) These are just off the top of my head: Shakes The Clown [Goldwaithe should get some kind of special commemoration for being so punk he wasn't even aware that he was] The Cowboy + the Frenchman [a David Lynch short film tagged on the end of my Japanese copy of "Eraserhead" - it has sound, is in color, and extolls the virtues of the so-called "Ugly American"] Times Square [yeah, really! The beutiful thing about this film is that they never used the word "punk" in the entire movie, but you knew all along that's what they were trying to describe] most of those Richard Kern films that featured Lydia, Lung, et al [I don't think I really need to elaborate on this, do I?] [on that note, I've got a collection of early Traci Lords flicks that demonstrate just how badly Traci wanted to be famous, but this is neither the time nor place for that sort of thing, I suspect] [This message has been edited by chain-wallet bitch (edited 08-02-2001).] IP: Logged |

Hell yeah! What wasn't there to love about New Wave Hookers, where the plot was that you could get the women to do anything as long as you played the right music.

I would never claim to be an authority on this subject (ahem), but Tesco Vee has gone on record saying that was why he owned R.E.M. albums - 'cause the chicks dug 'em, and it was the magic ticket. Blea! It's no wonder I'm still single, as those kind of records are simply not allowed in my home! Going slightly off the movie tangent, but responding to the question, I once "knew" a young lady that would do anything you wanted as long as the first Flour CD was playing...but that's all I'm sayin'! One thumb up! Yahoo Video site sez: "BORDER RADIO was Allison Anders’s directorial debut, made in collaboration with Kurt Voss (who would later work with her, and John Doe, on SUGAR TOWN (1999), and Dean Lent. The film is an early indication of Anders’s low key, wittily observant style. The plot involves a desperate musician, Jeff (Chris D, of the L.A. punk band, The Flesheaters), who leaves his wife (played by Luana Anders, the director's sister) and child, and runs to Mexico to escape his creditors. Much of the film involves Luana’s effort to track Jeff down, and smooth things over with the people who are after him. The film’s charm lies in its rambling good humor, and in the natural charisma of its stars, including musician John Doe (of the L.A. punkers, X), and Dave Alvin (of the 1980s rockabilly band, The Blasters). Shot in black and white, BORDER RADIO has tone not unlike Jarmusch’s STRANGER THAN PARADISE. Anders ably conveys her passion for music, and some essential truths about the life styles of those on the fringes of society, in this quirky, likable film." IP: Logged |
