I had a love hate relationship with that show but man is it fun to talk about. Rick, the people's poet, Neil the hippie, Vivian, Vivian, Vivian, very metal. And the boring guy. "How many people in this flat does it take to change a light bulb? One, me, because I'm the only one who ever does anything around here." - Neil "Vivian, Vivian, Vivian! Honestly, everytime something explodes around here, it's always Vivian, Vivian, Vivian!" IP: Logged |

It's Vyvyn. And the 4th guy was not boring at all, he was Mike, The Cool Guy.God I'm bored, even mindless violence seems boring. IP: Logged |

I am so glad I was restrained on ebay, with the boxed set I was jockeying for. Restraint is not my middle name, but my last name certainly carries the implication...------------------ C40 C40 C40 GO IP: Logged |

oooh, a dvd set with extras? i'm bubbling with excitement! i loves me the young ones, oh yes. two years ago at the weisman halloween party i orchestrated the young ones group costume, for which we won the group prize. i think what did it was that i (rik) had a convincing fight with my roommate (vyv) right there as we got judged. i think we may have had the 'you're a virgin!/ i'm not a virgin!' fight. oh yeah. and ollie, i think it's mike the cool person, not guy.

You, Sir, are correct, and I humbly aknowledge my digression. It IS "Mike the Cool Person".Give them a uniform and they think they're Hitler. IP: Logged |

My rommates and I watch that constantly! It's funny cos in this house are an old-school Punk Rocker, an old-school Skinhead, a crusty kid who's all fired up, and a... one is a moving target. She is a doll though, always enthusiastic about whatever new thing she's into for that particular month.IP: Logged |

I rank that show as the funniest thing I've ever seen on t.v. (with the highly underrated "Chimp Channel" right there, too). I'll never forget seeing "The Young Ones" for the first time in my shitty dorm room in about 1986 or so - man was I impressed when they had both The Damned and Motorhead on as guests. Wow. Anyway, now I've got to get a DVD player.IP: Logged |

Sorry, computer, I've got to type on you again..."Neil's Heavy Concept Album" is great; hey, even zomzom likes it! It originally came out in 1984, and supposedly was reissued on CD in 1994 but currently it seems to be available only as a pricey Japanese import. It's a fab combination of funny bits from Neil and genuinely groovy versions of classic psychedelia. And "No Future (God Save The Queen)" is priceless. It really is a concept album, too. Here's the track listing and album credits: 1. Hello Vegetables 2. Hole In My Shoe 3. Heavy Potato Encounter 4. My White Bicycle 5. Neil The Barbarian 6. Lentil Nightmare 7. Computer Alarm 8. Wayne 9. The Gnome 10. Cosmic Jam 11. Golf Girl 12. Bad Karma In The UK 13. Our Tune 14. Ken 15. The End Of The World Cabaret 16. No Future (God Save The Queen) 17. Floating 18. Hurdy Gurdy Man 19. Paranoid Remix 20. The Amoeba Song (From A Very Cellular Song) ---------------------------------------------------- 1984 - WEA 240524-1 ---------------------------------------------------- Nigel Planer (Neil)(V), Dave Stewart (K), Bryson Graham (D) Gavin Harrison (D), Pip Pyle (D), Jakko (G) Rick Biddulph (B/G), Jimmy Hastings (Sax/Fl) Annie Whitehead (Tbn), Barbara Gaskin (V) You can read the original sleeve notes here: http://www.michael.phatcatz.net/awtv/Comedy/YoungOnes/faq1/neil-album.html IP: Logged |

Hey sonicfreak, we need to compare notes because I've got a CD-R of Neil's Heavy Concept Album which was made from a copy of ( I think) the official cassette release... and the cassette seems to have stuff that's not on the record! After the bit about the peanut butter on the record (the Big Black Skatey Bit, which I'm guessing is the end of side 1), Neil says, "Oh wait, that last bit wouldn't really work on a cassette" and then he proceeds to recreate the sequence all by himself, doing vocal imitations of the music and making scrunching noises of the tape getting all tangled up. Is that sequence on the record? Also, after "The Amoeba Song (From A Very Cellular Song)" there's a pause, and then Neil says, "Right. That's the end of the LP. The record's finished. Just because the cassette's still running doesn't mean it's not finished. Go way! Stop listening!" Then he decides to introduce the B-side of his Hole in My Shoe single, "Hurdy Gurdy Mushroom Man." A little bit of that song was heard earlier in the album but here it's the complete version (over-produced, according to Neil). At the very end Neil says, "That was the worst experience I've ever had." Does any of that sound familiar? IP: Logged |

YES!! BAD NEWS! but i personally prefer "drink till I die" it is a much better metal song. "Lager makes me happy, vodka makes me mean, I'm a drinking driving heavy metal alcohol machine. listen to me drink AH- drink an' drink an' drink, listen to me drink an go CRAZAYYYY".....GENIUS!! IP: Logged |

"Dr. Marten's! Dr. Marten's! Dr. Marten's Boots!" I saw Alexei Sayle on a PBS show about railways of the world. He rode across the Middle East, from Iran to Saudi Arabia, I think. Through some pretty hostile territory. The best part was in Syria when some Arab men were singing "Country Road" by John Denver. Brilliant.

Alexei Sayle Rules!! his stand up stuff rules and his cameos in odd movies make me giggle. i can't remember which movie it was that he played a sultan of a middle east country trying to get a Rolls Royce out of the hero guy. I love him so much i forgot the rest of the movie. "boys...boys i want to finger your entrails!"IP: Logged |
