I heard they're back together again touring, with a brand new record out. Does anyone know if it's the classic Tom Johnston lineup or is Michael Mcdonald fronting the band? I know that some reunions have featured both. I look forward to twisting one up and "Listen to the Music" once again.

Not that I want to admit to knowing anything about this, but I heard that Michael McDonald is not officially "with" the band anymore, but he shows up for some shows and performs.

Didya see the VH1 "Behind the Music" Bug? They were talking about how back in the day, Tom Johnston had to bow out of a tour because of stomach ailments only to be replaced by a pinch-hitting Michael McDonald to sing all the Tom Johnston hits. It left most of the fans confused and angry imbeciles, including one 14 year old me! To make matters worse, Jeff "the Skunk" Baxter played the entire show sitting on a stool, wearing headphones. I think this kind of thing is why punk rock was invented. I would have liked to have seen them in their pre-Michael McDonald biker-band phase.

BTW, when I saw the Moby Grape reunion show at the Del Mar Fair a couple years ago, they had the Doobie Brothers bass player, otherwise mostly original lineup (no Skip Spence of course - not dead yet, just not there).

I just know that, for all intents and purposes, when Michael McDonald joined the band, the Doobie Brothers ceased to exist. What an annoying Poo!

Yeah, but he does sing a touching song on the soundtrack of South Park, Bigger, Longer, Uncut. The Eyes of a Child.

You mean Tiran Porter, mongrel?! He is a great bassist! My favorite LP's (Tom Johnston era naturally) are "Toulouse Street" and "Captain & Me". They're just packed with hits...

Yeah, that's the guy. When I saw the Moby Grape reunion show he was filling in for Bob Mosley. Bob Mosley was there, he just wasn't up to playing bass. He was there strictly for vocals. The rest of the lineup found him homeless, literally living under some bridges in San Diego and talked him into doing the show. Their set consisted of the first album played in the exact order and nothing else. His singing was great.

Spirit opened for them. What was the Spirit guitar player's name, Randy California or something like that? They were pretty good humor.
