HAH! i love it when tragedy strikes. they may not be punk rock, but laughing at their misfortune is!!!! ----------------------------
Loverboy bass player swept overboard, missing December 2, 2000 Web posted at: 2:09 AM EST (0709 GMT) SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- The bass guitar player of 1980s pop band, Loverboy, was missing at sea after being swept overboard by a 25-foot (7.5-meter) wave, the performer's management company said.
Scott Smith, 45, of Vancouver, British Columbia, was tossed overboard the Sea Major, his 37-foot (11-meter) sailboat. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon about four miles (six kilometers) off San Francisco's Ocean Beach, a release from manager Lou Blair said. Two travel companions, who have not been named, were below deck when the wave struck the boat. They were not injured. The wave's force was so strong it broke off the boat's steering wheel, the release said. The U.S. Coast Guard searched for Smith -- who was not wearing a life preserver -- with helicopters and a boat, but the effort was called off Friday. Smith's family has mounted a private search. The Canadian band, Loverboy, released their debut album in 1980. The group had such Top 20 hits as "Working for the Weekend," "Lovin' Every Minute of It," and "Turn me Loose." http://www.cnn.com/2000/US/12/02/overboard.ap/index.html IP: Logged |

He wont be re appearing anytime soon- Hypothermia in like five minutes, radical currents, and white sharks galore. San Francisco is not the most forgiving place for ocean-going dorks who think they know what they're doing. I suppose now we're going to have to endure weeks of VH1 Loverboy tributes. So far I think we had managed to avoid that particular "where are they now".[This message has been edited by Tobylifehater (edited 12-02-2000).] IP: Logged |

Well, if they don't find his body they can't rightly have a "where is he now"! Now who is KS95 gonna get to play the 80s stage at Taste Of Mn this year? Loverboy was about one of the only bands left. IP: Logged |

if he would have been wearing one of those headbands like the leadsinger used to, he would've floated ashore and live to play a re-union show at the Fine Line!IP: Logged |

ran into heather la faye today, who was in attendance last night, and said it was, if not the most interesting, at least the most unique people watching experience she had seen in a long time-- not just the audience, but the band was chock full of 70s retort. "this love song goes out to anyone who carries a torch" (literally and figurally i would guess; i.e. if you have a lighter, now is the time to pull it out) IP: Logged |
