They'll be at the Rock tonight, and so will I. I hate to miss Poison at the fair though.

My first rock concert ever was Ted Nugent and Black Oak Arkansas down in Little Rock, Arkansas back in 1976.

Black Oak = great.
Ted = like watchin' paint dry.

Didn't make it to the Rock last night. Ended up getting drunk at the Lamplighter and going to the Uptown to see Minneapolis' answer to Jim Dandy, Rev. Rob Peckerwood and Vasoline Alley. Great show as usual. Some killer new stuff and they were doing some really cool dual lead guitar work, but I shouldn't ramble on about them in a Black Oak Thread.

Like Daddy's Lil Big Un, Black Oak Arkansas/Ted Nugent was my first-ever rock concert in 1978, Jim Dandy, the first rock star I ever laid eyes on live. What a thrill. That was 1978. I'm an old fart. By the way, a 20-year-old kid came over the other day and couldn't figure out what my turntable was. Man...

That makes three of us who were at that show then (Black Oak/Nugent). I saw 'em again, on tour with Jethro Tull, in '77, I think, and one of my fave episodes of "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" featured a double bill of Black Oak and Sly and the Family Stone (which I still have on video tape). Damn, I must've dozed off and winked, to not have known about the show on the 31st. I think I'm gonna run downstairs right now and blast my 8-track of "High on the Hog"!!

I remember the first time I saw Van Halen (Diver Down tour), I thought David Lee Roth was kind of a Jim Dandy rip-off.

Raunch and Roll was the third album I ever bought.
"When Electricity came to Arkansas". Brilliant.
This was as good as Southern Rock ever got. Fuck Skynyrd, Allmans, CDB etc.
Ever hear their first album? Excellent stuff.
I still have my deed to Heaven on Earth, Arkansas. You got a square inch of it when you bought the album. Never been there.

One of my first rock shows... 1977, White Eagle Ballroom, New Effington, SD. My grandma was the "bouncer", so I got in.

Ruby Starr was singin.
