"in a gadda da vida, honey...don't you know that i'll always be true...in a gadda da vida, baby....don't you know that i'll be lovin' you..."anyone ever got into iron butterfly? or the song in a gadda da vida? i was too young to really get into it, though it played at the first makeout party i went to. pfft, makeout parties, man that brings back odd memmories...though "c'mon baby light my fire" (not by iron butterfly for those who don't know) saw more action, for obvious reasons. then i grew up and thought blondie rocked. it gets mentioned a lot in the simpsons, matt groening must have a thing for it,hehe. Slayer remade the song into a superfast thrash metal song.. I remember they would play it on Z-Rock back in the day. Nowadays metal stations are pussies. Iron Butterfly are like metal godfathers and get no respect. And you have to listen to MetalShop just to hear Slayer, if you are lucky.IP: Logged |

I don't know why I'm admitting to it, but I still have my father's Iron Butterfly album. When I was a kid he would play INNAGODDADAVIDA mainly to piss off my mother. I think the original song was titled In the garden of eden. I haven't heard it in decades.IP: Logged |

According to ancient legend, "In a Gadda Da Vida" is what "In the Garden of Eden" sounds like when spoken through a bong. "Wait a minute. This sounds like rock and/or roll." --Rev Lovejoy

It says in the CD writings he had a gallon of wine when he was writing the song. When he told his bandmates about the song he was writing his slurred speech said "inna gadda devita" rather than "in the garden of eden."IP: Logged |

When I was in high school, I babysat for this couple with a killer stereo and headphones. He liked country, she liked rock. When the kids were in bed, I would zone out to Iron Butterfly and Led Zeppelin Two. Years later I heard they got divorced.[This message has been edited by trailerdiva (edited 08-19-2002).] IP: Logged |

i liked that song a little when i was eleven. i don't like super long drawn out songs. a song should be like sex: hard, fast, and over in three minutes.[This message has been edited by stinkbot (edited 08-19-2002).] IP: Logged |

i say it varies, sometimes a less than a minute burst of pure raw energy can be fucking awesome, while at other times a slower, more thoughtprovoking 5-8 minute steady session helps unwind. anything longer than 10minutes though is nuts. i lose interest by then, and change for something else. with that said, i could never get into classical. I'm listening to in gadda devitta right now. During the slow, weird part it sound like they are actually playing an upright bass, not a bass guitar.IP: Logged |
