Elvis is the very first concert I ever went to. My parents took me the last time he was in Minnesota. Unfortunately I'm too young to recall the show, I was only two years old, but it must kick started something in me becuse as a tot I was infatuated with the King, there are old pics of me with my toy guitar strumming away in front of Elvis on the TV. I know Elvis is generally regarded as a bit of a buffoon, but I think he's generally pretty cool, especially his Sun Records era, but I've always had a soft spot for "Hunk of Burnin' Love." Still, he was no Buddy Holly.[This message has been edited by stu (edited 08-12-2002).] IP: Logged |

"Race, Rock & Elvis" is a fascinating look at these 3 topics & how they intertwined in the post-World War II South. You might think you know the story but the author puts out interesting ideas based on solid research. IP: Logged |

A fetish taken too far? It's one thing to want to play him in movies, but to marry his daughter - now that's creepy.Actor Nicolas Cage marries Elvis' daughter Associated Press Published Aug 12, 2002 PRES13 LOS ANGELES -- Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage married Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, during a romantic Hawaiian Island ceremony witnessed by family and close friends, publicists confirmed Monday. The couple recited wedding vows Saturday evening at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows on the Big Island of Hawaii, Cage spokeswoman Annett Wolf and Presley spokesman Paul Block said. Cage is 38, Presley is 34. This is Presley's third wedding; she was married previously to musician Danny Keough and pop star Michael Jackson. It was the second marriage for Cage, who divorced actress Patricia Arquette in 2000. They had no children. ``The wedding was in front of immediate family and friends,'' Block said, including the bride's mother, Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie's children - Danielle, 13, and Benjamin, 10, from her marriage to Keough - and Cage's 12-year-old son, Weston, from a previous relationship. There were no other details. Lisa Marie Presley is the only child of Priscilla Presley and Elvis, who died 25 years ago this week. The couple returned to Los Angeles on Sunday. Wolf said Cage was back at work Monday filming his latest movie, ``Matchstick Men,'' which Ridley Scott is directing. Asked about a honeymoon, Block and Wolf said they ``know of no other plans.'' Cage won a best-actor Academy Award for 1995's ``Leaving Las Vegas,'' and starred in this year's ``Windtalkers.'' His other recent movies include ``Captain Corelli's Mandolin,'' ``The Family Man'' and ``Gone in 60 Seconds.''

Um, why would anyone divorce one of the cute little Arquette girls? I think Nick is stupid. And I've been wondering, is Nicholas like the Hollywood love child of Francis Ford, because his real last name is Coppola not Cage. It's true.IP: Logged |

I think Francis is Nick's uncle or something like that. They are related somehow. IP: Logged |

Francis Ford Coppola is his uncle; the "Cage" comes from his admiration for composer John Cage, as I recall.IP: Logged |

Hey zom, when's your next stage performace as an ACTOR? Who here has seen your ass in a play? Some actors are awesome and you know it. It's *most* of them that suck shit. Nick Cage is so terrible. John Cage?? As in Cunningham and Cage?? That's too funny. IP: Logged |

Even though you're being a crabapple Zom, I agree with you, smartypants. It's just something I've wondered for a while ever since I read that in the World Almanac and now I know. Francis Ford has been involved in some brilliant movies as well as his daughter Sofia. Nick, however, is a different story. Also, since your input here is way more intellectual than our mindless drool, how come you havn't commented on Mr. Scholtzes Baghdad post? Or are you above politics, too. I like Elvis. I like Jailhouse Rock. I like the film clips of authority figures scandalized by his personification of rock.I believe his daughter is crazy. A victim of fame. I believe the Arquette girls are all crazy. Cute. But fuckingnuts. I believe Nick Cage does not feel he is crazy enough, and is trying, always to become more so. Though, he needn't try so hard. The Junkie XL remix was originally grabbed for the Ocean's 11 remake. It was then used for this kickass set of football (ok, soccer) ads featuring former Manchester United star Eric Cantona as the ringleader of a no-rules tournament played in an oil tanker out at sea. The teams were made up of some of the biggest names in international football today and it was a run-up to the world Cup this summer. I think they were Nike ads...you could probably find them all on the net still. Worth it if you like footy or amazing camera work...or even just great stunt/action footage.Oh, they're finally playing the song at suburban white-trash disco night...guess it's a certified hit! Those ads were great. And I totally forgot about the music. That french guy henry was in there. A football ad that rocked me everytime was the "that's entertainment", with what do you call your manager? I got goosebumps.Oh yeah, Elvis. "Send in the Monkeys" a beer for anyone who gets that reference.

so yesterday marked the 25th anniversary that the big E was found lifeless on the crapper in Graceland. I walked around doing my normal shopping stint at a local coffee joint and they were playing "walking in memphis" a terrible song but i mentioned the appropriateness of the song on the occaision and thecoffee pushers had NO idea what i was talking about. i noted the same thing at few other places yesterday, radios playing Elvis tunes or songs about Elvis and people were completely oblivious to the fact that it has been a quarter of a century since the king had passed. I mean it was on the news even! what the hell is wrong with these people? how could a person not know about that? it was kind of a big deal. like the spam museum opening or Jolt making espresso cola. get with it America or the ruskies will be marching down main street very soon!

Well, it looks like nobody has claimed that beer yet, so: it's Nick Cage as Charlie Bodell in "Peggy Sue Got Married." Kathleen Turner as Charlie's girlfriend Peggy Sue finds herself reliving her past (circa 1960) but she can remember what happened up to the present (mid-1980s). Her obtuse boyfriend Charlie wants a career in music, so Peggy Sue gives him the words and music to "She Loves You," which she promises him will be a hit. Later, Charlie sings some of the song to her, but he changed it! The "Yeah, yeah, yeahs" became "Ooo, Ooo, Ooos," etc. Probably the funniest bit in a so-so Coppola movie. IP: Logged |

Name the show and the beer is yours. That movie had some great lines. Kevin J. O'Connor was hilarious: "I'm gonna get outta here... I'm gonna WRITE! I'm gonna check out of this bourgeois motel, push myself away from the dinner table and say, "No more jello for me, mom!" IP: Logged |

Seems a little unfair to change the requirements at this point but before I strain my brain any further, just what kinda beer are we talking about? Sorry, getting a little off-topic as far as the King is concerned... IP: Logged |
