I would like to know somthing. How come some "punks" actualy go out of their way to look "Punk" and what not. I thought that punk is a state of mind, not a fasion. Punk was against fashion and conformity yet all these people look the same to some extent. Almost all of these "punks" have piercings and mohawks or some hairdoo that screams for attention. Wasn't the whole idea of punk music and life style about not caring and just kicking the shit out of one another and having fun. It preached Rebellion and anger twords authority figures and yet a lot of punks still buy shit from stores and spend time in the bathroom doing their hair and dawning their spikes and chains. Buying shit is bending over for society and spending all this time in the bathroom for your looks is simply conforming to the way society thinks punk rockers should look. Oh well, it would be nice to hear some views.. peace out ------------------ -Zerg IP: Logged |

what do you look like? where do you shop? how do these beliefs feed into your everyday actions? if you dont believe in buying stuff, do you make your own clothes? do you grow your own food? it is easy to make comments and observations-but a lot harder to stick to your convictions. I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I think punk has become, in a lot of ways, nothing more than a fashion. it has indeed become mainstream. however, i think that it's important to realize that if there are parts of punk that you relate with on one level or another-who cares if there are other people that dont understand? let them do their own thing-again, punk being a "cool" thing to do will die down as all fads do. people that have roots in their beliefs and convictions will stick around. and who's to say punk wasnt a gimmic from the getgo? At this juncture, I would like to award molly coddle the TCP Best Listing under the Interests Section trophy for her classic "nothing that would make you want to know me better " comment. I think it's an inspiration to us all.IP: Logged |

True but, why not? The great thing is that punk fashion totally contradicts it's self. It's all about mockery anyway. Why not have some fun w/ it? If a person thinks there punk just because they have a T-shirt w/ cid written in blood on it. It's a joke or a dead give away!IP: Logged |

Felix and Daego kinda turned me around on this whole topic, mostly when Felix said he liked (and I paraphrase) "kickin' the mohawk and bondage pants cuz [he thought] it looked cool." What can you say to that? There's nothing wrong with wearing something because you think it looks cool. I'd argue that you should wear clothes because you think they look cool. Why wear average garb? Why not step out? I dress how I do (albeit more understated) for those exact reasons. I also like the thought that rockin' a tall, red mohawk (ala daego) is like a giant "fuck you" to everyone. Agree with my hypothesis if you want, but there is a lot of truth in here.IP: Logged |

I thought about this for a while last night. I have to say that those who I know on the board who do have the "punk" look don't go out of their way. It is very much a part of their life style. For me it would be going out of my way. I'm not very cool. IP: Logged |

Yes, I see from your many, many photos that you guys like to Give us the Finger!. Those big giant pants, man, those aren't punk at all. Neither is the blue hippy hairdo on that same guy. Punk has always been about fashion, but it's not about big giant pants. Fuck you and "peace out"? Huh?IP: Logged |

Punk has been as much about "the look" as it has been about hte music. Sometimes more, sometimes less.I used to sport the togs but as I got older it seemed less important to let the world know that I hated it. Now it's kinda fun just to blend in and fuck with people's heads when they're not expecting it. And while I didn't sew my own clothes I did try to do all the modifications myself. Making my own bondage pants, screening or spray painting my own tshirts etc. IP: Logged |

All the junk I used to wear was pretty functional until everything fell apart and I just wore what was left. Now it's usually just a pair of black jeans, the steel caps, and a black t shirt. Simple. I even wear a big fur collared mobster jacket to shows now cause no one gets it. They are always like "What's up with the coat?" Well, nothing. It's super warm and I can hide a lot of weapons or bottles in it if need be.Big hair. Even the "PUNKS" hate that! It's GREAT! Making all the same dumb asses that pay to see you angry by having big ridiculous hair is funny. Half of them beg for tips. I get e-mails constantly asking me how we got our hair like that. I talk a bunch of mystic mumbo jumbo and will never tell, cause by the time you get it perfect you are sick of it. "I say never be perfect. Fuck being complete." What's mostly pathetic is people who really gie a fuck that you choose to adorn yourself in such a manner. If some kid thinks Wattie is cool why shouldn't they? It's their life. Fuck you! Hows come you never make fun of all the white belts of boys with eating disorders or the uniformity of camo shit at X shows, etc? It's a matter of how you choose to spend your time. Some spend it doing their hair, others spend it complaining about other people's hairdos. Who's the fool? IP: Logged |

I think it can be more of a tribal-ish instinct. People can seek out like people in a group by a way of dress. At least at one point in time things were like this. These days with Hot Topic and whatnot, WHO KNOWS? Nothings different or shocking anymore.Mojo, is that you? Everytime a new person pops on with goofy questions I get suspicious. IP: Logged |
