Name and rank your all-time favorites, past and present...

I'll start with Black-Eyed Snakes, nearing my number-one spot in the state, actually...

Okay, I've thought about it, and here's my list of favorite Duluth bands in no set or particular order. I've seen most of these bands. I never saw the Fuckin' Shit Biscuits, but I heard they were the all-time greatest. What am I missing or forgetting?

Black-Eyed Snakes
Giljunko (on permanent hold?)
Low
Black Labels
The Dames
Kill Conformity
The Keep Aways
Jamie Ness
Father Hennepin
Mayfly
Shimmy
Amy Abts
Sara Softich
Gild
Jackie and the Ripoffs

dullyouth gets all the cred, let's include suptown, too.

Pete: kill conformity is from siren,wi, not the twin ports. but they're on that chilly women thing, so i can how you could get confused. their tweenie drummer kicks ass. and i think giljunko is done as done can be.

and i agree with rusty (it is rusty, right?) on both. cougar and crue rock the house every time they play. and the members i've spoken with have been nothing but gentlemen to me.

but i must add to the list with some shameless plugging:
dt's
undesirables
bone appetit (yes, that's what i said)
lindquist (not the same as giljunko, but a fine replacement)
fairwell tour
i am the slowdancing umbrella
the subliminals (r.i.p.)
the alley whores (have you SEEN these guys? they're f'n hilARious!)
the lovers
black labels (tony's doing a great job with takin' chunk's place)

the vermont connection gets an honorable mention because i've only seen them once, i was wsated, and that's not enough for me to form a solid opinion. but what i remember was good.

so does number one common, but strictly on the fans that they bring in. those new metal kids get so damn CRAZY! i just love watching them.

that's all for now.

swivelhead
sourpuss
relapse
puddle wonderful
omega 2000
holiday w/ abner

there's more, but i'm a little hazy right now. i had a few too many - a few hours too early.

About Kill Conformity, yeah, there should be a special catogory for small-town Wisconsin bands that play in the Twin Cities more than Wisconsin, e.g. the Drunk Drivers and Amish Armada...

Best Duluth Band?

Ever?

That seems to run counter to the point, but I'll throw in my two cents.

The Best Band Up Here is Circa A.M.

The Best Band I Ever Saw From Duluth was 18 Dimensions Of Love with Chris Hamsher.

Paul Lundgren is dead. Long live Paul Lundgren.

I don't know if they're still doing stuff, but I saw this weird duo called If Thousands at Homegrown Festival over a year ago and they were freaking awesome. Anyone know if they're still around?

Adam, yes If Thousands are still around. I believe they are going to go on tour somewhat soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Oh fuck, Beer Brigade, I haven't thought about that band in a long assed time.

My all time favorite Duluth bands:

Blackeyed Snakes, possibly one of my fave bands, whether or not it's a Duluth/Minnesota/Usa list.
Low , I think AL Sparhawk has some sort of midas touch when it comes to music.
The Inactive were pretty fucking amusing back in thier time.
The Corkies , same as above.
I'm going to agree with Rusty for a minute,
Swivelhead were great as were
Sourpuss.
Feminist Blowjob never ceased to amuse
The Hadjis, the band that begat the Black Labels but focused more on the surf side of things.
The Black Labels , you can barely tell it's not Chunk anymore, Bravo Tony.
Giljunko/Lindquist , love his lyrics.
The Undesireables, gotta love the cowpunk
Jamie Ness
Fairweather Friend
Bone Appetit
The Keepaways
Father Hennepin
Jackie and The Ripoffs
The Bunts ( ok they were from knife river/two harbors, but close enough.
18 Dimensions of Love
The Fromundas
Running With Scissors
Both

I know I forgot a bunch, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

i like this message board a great deal, and it's too bad it took a big bloody feud to make me aware of it.

the best band ever in duluth, that i have enjoyed the most, is probably the dames.

i really liked sourpuss also, but the dames are way better to me.

but the most IMPORTANT band to me, besides the two i have been in which were mentioned in this string(thanks), would have to be zen identidy. al sparhawk's band before low. they were like a u2 rem goth punk something or other. the first band i saw playing exclusively original music! made me turn right around i tells ya!

duluth/superior does suck in many ways, but i'm not the one bitching, i'm the one trying to improve it in the small ways i can.

i will continue to do so because i love this place, and i wish it could be the great getaway spot for the region that the twin cities are. it's easy to be negative, and believe me, at times i am the king of negativity(sounds like the title of a new metallica song), so big ups for talking up the good things and folks of duluth /superior.

ps it may be conceited, but i will make pw champion of the superior rock bands at least.

the only other bands from soup that i can think of were void, fractl and hangin midgets.

competition wasn't stiff is what i am saying.

I may be wrong, but weren't Zen Identity a Minneapolis band? And yeah they were damn good. I actually got into a conversation about Zen not too long ago.

the original zen identidy with al was from duluth. after al left i believe they regrouped without him a coupla years later and started based out of the cities. i could be wrong but i hardly ever am.
either way they ruled.
so many beautiful ladies at their shows, too.

Yeah, Puddle Wonderful may have been crowned King High Salami from soup town, but I will have you know that my band Decibel 192 was voted the 6th Best Band by the same panel.
