this has to be phony. how could the Mudpie close now? there are more vegetarians in the Twin Cities now than when they opened. if the sports bar set wants a place in the city to hang out make them go to Huberts. what the hell is a sports bar anyway? every stinkin' bar that has a TV is playing sports right? so whats the difference between a bar and a sports bar?IP: Logged |

I did not enjoy working there whatsoever. For as expensive as the food is you'd think they'd be able to treat their workers a little better.IP: Logged |

I second that motion, having worked there in the early '80s; from many accounts I've heard, they haven't changed much. They're exactly the kind of folks who have given hippies a bad name - peace and love my ass. Although, the missus did amuse me on occasion; I still have vivid memories of the day she strolled repeatedly throughout the kitchen, showing off her brand new fur coat - I kid you not.IP: Logged |

well, i spent about a year working there and many of the folks i worked with were cool and some are still very good friends of mine however i didn't like the job itself or my employer(s). Plus, since i was on, shall we say, "special cleaning detail" in order to make some extra $$ i saw some less than appetizing things in both the kitchen and dining room. I realize that this might be true for any restaurant but i can truthfully say that i no longer ate there after i quit working there.IP: Logged |

P.S. it seems that every new bar is rumored, and possibly not without cause, to be a sports bar.Any solid info on that or is it just rumor? IP: Logged |

Well, my wife is the manager of a frame shop and apparently the people who are buying it were in there having some work done and mentioned they were gonna turn it into a sports bar so thats what I know. IP: Logged |

Isn't the Mudpie 25XX Lyndale? I'm not trying to be an ass, just curious? Although it has only been a couple of months since I was in town, it seems like a lot longer and my mind is already fading. IP: Logged |

No, it is on the 2500 block, but it is closer to the 26th street intersection. Tight next door to Oar Folkjokeopus/ TreehouseI've only eaten there twice and I never liked the food. To earthy for me. I'm a veggie, but didn't care for this place. Plus it was the scene of a rather embarassing break-up scene for me c. 1995. I was so young and innocent. IP: Logged |

that place is way over rated! the food sucks and you get shit for portions! the waitresses are fuckin smoking tho! they had this one chick with the nicest rack working there about 2 years ago! we need a sports bar to get some hot suburban chicks in the area who like to get drunk and strip at the bar! Okay, I want the stories folks. What is the strangest thing Robbie "weird beard" Stair ever said to you while you worked there. I'll start with just one and that is this. I'm out back in the alley having a smoke. Weird Beard is coming down the alley and says to me. "Ya know, most people have to shit their pants in order to regain their youth, but you just have to smoke a cigarette." Then he walks away. I have others for later.IP: Logged |

Patchouli ought to be made illegal. What are people thinking when they wear that stuff? It smells like something that was laying by the side of the road. IP: Logged |

I tried bringing Black Fork there once. It had all the charm of a morgue or a sound deprivation chamber. A skulking, sullen emaciated crusty breeder chick slammed water down in front of us. She hated us for no reason. We left and went to the Hard Times. I have other stories as well.IP: Logged |

i've never been all that impressed with the food, and the list of people that didn't like working there seems to be growing.however, i would rather have a mediocre vegetarian restaurant in my neighborhood than a fucking sports bar. the mud pie is a staple on that block. we have enough sports bars already. i hope this information is wrong. i really do. I thought the MudPie food tasted OK, but I seldom went there because I had to order two entrees to fill up, and that gets expensive.IP: Logged |

I do wear patchouli sometimes. But very lightly and take a bath, too! People do love the patchouli on me. And I'm not a hippie, ex-grunge girl that is! IP: Logged |

I pulled a couple dishwashing shifts there in the winter of '97 when I was between jobs. I didn't think it was such a bad place to work (this coming from the dishwasher) but I did only work there for two shifts. We listend to Bad Brains and Jawbreaker in the kitchen, I thought that was cool.As far as the food, I'm with most of you, I never thought it was all that great. I hate to say it, but a sports bar will probably do pretty good in that spot. IP: Logged |

I made food for, Black Flag. Minutemen. REM. Flea and Anthony. Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates. Matthew modine. The Bodeans. Prince. Just to name a few. Really not a bad place to work. Almost a staple of the punk workforce before Pizza Luce. Early 80's. Dirty clothes. Dreads. Mohawks. Ya know all that stuff that is so normal now. It was not easy. But you could go next door to Oarfolk and smoke in the store and have a soda from the machine and hear all the lastest. Big fun.IP: Logged |

I just missed Lance in the moist gulag known as the dishwashing station. We listened to quite a lot of Kraftwerk. The kitchen manager was really cool, and I worke with my old friend from down South, Spencer. And Clint Makhikhikhikhnados... But even that did not make up for the abject scorn of the waitstaff. And the fact I was the only one cleaning the bathrooms, on my little weekly shift. Bitter much? Hell yeah.IP: Logged |

Never ate there once. I thought that place was an institution like the CC, Oarfolk/Treehouse, Country Boy convience store, Rex's hardware and what's that place across the street Soba's? Goes to show ya somethings do change but a sports bar? Its a small space isn't it? A greasy spoon cafe would be better IMO.IP: Logged |

Okay, here's a funny one. Robbie and Karen get back from a night of clog dancing as myself and the cook are closing. We sit down in the smoking booth to have our last cig and a cherry cider when in they stroll. Robbie wants Karen to give us a demonstration of how wonderful she clogs. She starts in with some loud ass clog stepping and goes on and on for five minutes and stop. Mike the cook just smiles and nods as robbie says to him, Mike The action was at her feet.IP: Logged |
